It was November 2008 when I first saw a device which was advertised in a shopping mall in San Francisco where I went for a business meeting. I heard these devices before, but always remained suspicious regarding their quality. I thought, "it is one of them cheap Chinese ideas which will disappear in a few months" but have never seen one in real until then. The guys in the mall had a stand, inviting people to come and test the device. I was in a rush so I didn't test it (bad decision!) but while I was walking past, I saw that you can actually "smoke" it. While I was going away from the stand, I heard that you have to keep buying these so called cartridges and I said, "ha! Another money making scam!". As soon as I left the mall, I lit another cigarette and walked away happily, enjoying my cigarette.
I have been smoking since, 1998 and I was smoking 2-3 cigarettes a day for the first year, then 10, then 15, then a pack a day (20), and for the last 2-3 years, 25 a day sometimes. But I always said to myself: "My father smokes 2 packs a day, and he goes to doctor every now and then and amazingly his lungs are as clear as a child's lungs, the doctor says. I haven't been coughing, so I must have his genes". Fool me. I know my breathing is not good, I now I smell terrible when I smoke. I know my skin doesn't look as good as it could be.
The cost of smoking cigarettes has never been a problem for me, luckily (or should I say unfortunately). And maybe that is another reason why I have never tried to give up smoking. After all these years, I was still enjoying every single cigarette I smoked.
It was 10 days ago when I suddenly googled e-cigarette. I was thinking of stopping smoking one way or another but I did not want to try nicotine patches and/or pills. What was important to me is the action of smoking. So I googled electronic cigarette or something along this line. I found one of the most important forums I've come across in my life: ECF! (I wasn't thinking like this on the first moment I saw the forum though, to be honest). The forum however was a bit confusing. Yes there was this brilliant 6 part article for newbies which explains many (if not all) things you need to know about e-cigs but it seemed like people are using different language here in this forum... People are talking numbers, abbreviations, brand names that I've never heard of. And it seemed like everyone knew what they were talking about.
I then visited many many different websites which cells e-cigs. Unfortunately, most of them just looked so amateur that I didn't even want to buy the cheapest thing using my PayPal account. But then I came across Totally Wicked UK's website. I am not going to talk about them much because I don't want my first post to be like an advertisement. But their website, including the videos on the website convinced me to buy my first welcome pack.
A day later, I received my order. It was "Wicked-TORNADO E-NI or Electronic Nicotine Inhalator Black" I was in my office in Brighton, UK but was so impatient to try one. It was early in the morning so I said, "calm down, just charge the device and you'll try in a few hours". So I kept working.
When I saw the green light on the charger, I said, "that's it! Let's see what is this all the fuss about". I carefully assembled the device, went outside. There were few people out smoking their smelly cigarettes but that didn't stop me trying my new toy.
I inhaled one time, and, like the first kiss of your life, it was unforgettable. It tasted, hit almost exactly like a real cigarette. It even had the bitter tobacco-ish taste in my mouth. I just couldn't believe. I inhaled one more, and yes, it was real!
It has been 5 days so far! 5 days without an "analog" (yes I'm getting there with the terms you guys use). I don't feel a need for smoking an analog anymore. Nothing else in the life would've stopped me smoking I believe.
I have got a lot to learn, a lot to practice, a lot to taste! But I would like to thank every single member of this community for being part of this wonderful forum and sharing their ideas with everyone. I will have a lot to ask and I'm sure I will have all the answers I need from you. And thanks to Totally Wicked for making my first experiment a wonderful one. The first one is very important. Imagine it tasted terrible! It would stop me trying anything else and make me go back to smoking analogs!
Thank you all!
