Hi all, I have been reading this forum for a few weeks and I am still really confused!

I bought a starter set (a 510 I think) and it did not come with instructions. Anyway thought I had figured it out until I went to replace the tip ( I'm not sure what you guys call it) the new one had the poly fill but the old one didn't. Now, with the poly fill I keep getting the juice in my mouth.

I know it isn't rocket science but what am I doing wrong? The gaping was working for me but now I'm confused about carts and attys and what is the easiest way to vape.

I also have no idea how often to change parts or how to tell if they are dying. I have no idea how often to clean the parts or anything. It would have been nice to have a instruction manual.

I'm a tad paranoid about getting the juice on myself or in my mouth since hat is the part that seems to be controversial.

Sorry for my newbieness but ANY help would be appreciated at this point.

All I want o do is quit smoking for good!

Welcome to ECF. Assuming you have a Joye 510 or clone kit that came with prefilled carts.. The tip is called a cartrige or cart. It holds the juice in the polly fill. The part that screws into the battery is the atomizer and it heats the juice and vaporizes it. The cart should have had poly fill to hold the juice. Look down in the atomizer and see if the polly fill got stuck in there. If so, remove it and try the new cart again. If this is not the case, it would be helpful if you could provide a link to the e-cig you purchased.

I agree with the OP. There's alot that I don't understand. The more research I do here at ECF, the more I learn. I thought I was doing well with a Mistic that I found at a local Pilot. While it is an EXCELLENT entry-level beginner's pv, I now know there's so much more out there..The "mods" are quite attractive to me. However, I guess my next step would be to pop the tops off these carts and experiment with e juice..

atomizer + cartridge is the worst way to vape - cartridges don't hold much and can suddenly dump 1/2 the liquid in your mouth. meanwhile - never overfill the cartridge with liquid! It should only look damp, not a puddle. You can buy the more consistent blue foam stuffing precut for 510 cartridges at strictlyejuice.com (search there for foam) - see if they ship to Canada. Else ask in the Canada forum where to get blue foam.

---

Most prefer cartomizers. Buy Boge 510 3 ohm aka standard resistance cartomizers (slim ecigs should only use standard resistance - the hotter LR stuff like 2 ohm is for the big fat models and mods). In the US you can but 3 colors at NiteLiteVapor.us and the other places like Liberty-Flights.com, LiteCigUSA.net just have black. The Canada forum has a list of Canada vendors - one or more should have Boge 510 standard resistance cartomizers.

If you bought the sealed manual batteries also buy a drip tip. If you bought an automatic battery kit I recommend a spare battery (and drip tip not recommended for autos - you can test juices using cartridges).

Cartomizers are disposable one piece cart w/ internal atomizer. They hold more juice, need juice less often, keep your flavor separate, and if properly filled and cleaned up they will not get any juice in your mouth. I can get 7-10 days use out of one cartomizer by keeping it damp and using thin clear juices. Only put juices you know you like in cartomizers. And I recommend thinner juices w/ 20% or less VG (30%is OK but may degrade the carto quicker)

---

How I fill a cartomizer (Vapor4Life for KR8 or Boge 510 for 510 which are all soft-cap w/ no inner seals and defined central air channel)

I use thin (20% or less VG) liquid or Vapor4Life WOW liquids, preferably clear liquids w/ no sediment

Filling a blank carto - I pop off the soft cap (unbent paperclip carefully in the mouth hole, not catching any wires or stuffing!). I hold some tissue against the threaded end hole. I tilt the carto and slowly drip 18 drops (per ml of carto capacity and these are 1ml cartos) onto the inner wall of the carto so it slides down into the stuffing while I rotate the carto. Then I wait 15 seconds or so then I drip however many more drops the stuffing wants to soak up. Then I do clean-up. If it is leaking, I clean that up. Then I tilt the open end down into the tissue and puff a couple of times into the threaded end to clear any juice out of the central air channel (I want to see light through there). If it looks too wet above the stuffing, I gently touch a bit of tissue to the stuffing (otherwise that liquid will be gurgling or spitting in my mouth). Then since this was a fresh fill of a blank, I now let it settle. I lay the carto on different sides for 15-20 minutes. Then it should be ready to vape. If you use thicker juices than me, then you may need to let it settle longer.

As I am vaping - if the vapor gets a bit light or a bit dry or tastes bit off or the carto is getting unusually warm, I will take the carto off the battery, open it, add 6-8 drops or whatever it seems to want (I will either hold a bit of tissue against the threaded end hole just in case, or skimp on how many drops I add to make sure I avoid drips if I have no tissue). I check to make sure the threaded end is dry, give it a couple of puffs into the threaded end to make sure the air channel is clear, and continue to vape.

Note - it is easy for me to "open" my main cartos for adding juice because I replace the white end cap with a plastic or delrin drip tip (I get them at LiteCigUSA.net). So I can easily pull that out with my fingers when I add juice and it keeps my lips cool if the carto is hot.

Thank you for taking the time to respond!

Joye 510 Manual Stainless Beginner Kit

This is the model I bought.

I was actually filling it up wrong too  I was putting the liquid right o the atomizer. And I was only using 2 or 3 drops.

I thought I researched well but I am still so confused. There is a lot to learn. Please keep the answers coming!

Well yes you can do that too because you have the sealed manual batteries (good choice). Most would use a drip tip when dripping (a 510 drip tip would stick into the atomizer instead of the cart and you could drip right through its wide mouth-hole). Or you could use that empty cartridge as a moutpiece but then you have to remove it every time you drip.

With the cartridges that have stuffing in them, you can put juice into the cartridge stuffing until it stops soaking it in and just looks damp on top, then put that on the atomizer.

Or you can buy standard resistance cartomizers of various kinds (Boge are most popular) - just don't use the LR cartos (ones below 2.5 ohms - those are for the long charge fat-battery models like Ego and mods)

I do recommend you try cartomizers for your favorite thin juice(s) once you figure out what they are.

Re juice in your mouth - the main issue is nicotine - it's a skin irritant and tastes bad and if you get some in your mouth you should spit it out and wipe your lips with a tissue to try to get it off. Otherwise it could add to the nicotine you are vaping and give you symptoms of too much nic (headache, rapid or irregular heartbeat, cold finger, hazy or yucky feeling). If you don't have nicotine in your liquid then I don't think it can hurt you at all.

Also one more quick question. How can I tell which parts are comparable with my set? I just want to make sure I order the right items.

And if I want lower nicotine can I mix the doses right in the cart?
The "510 series" have tons of support in the way of cartomizers etc. As long as the listing says 510 you should be all set.

I used atomizers once and did not like them. Everyone has their own taste/ style and some vapers love them. You can't mix right in the cart. You have to mix in a bottle and shake, then fill. dormouse is far more knowledgeable and I'll let her answer your questions because as I've said I don't use/ have little experience with atomizers. Good that you got the manual batteries though= more control. If you do decide to buy/ use cartomizers make absolute sure it is filled completely but not overfilled. After filling the top of the stuffing should look like a "slushie/ slurpee". I, and others, usually fill them the night before and stand them up. Next day you may have to add a little. Blow into a kleenex from the end opposite of the battery threads to clear any juice out out of the airway. You have a manual button which you can push down on for a sec or 2 before inhaling. Also good that your PV is 510- popular and lots of fun stuff that fits with it.
Happy Vaping.

Thank you for the video!!! I feel kind of dumb now though...it is soooo simple.

I wanted to ask people what would you include for a shopping list for my model?
I am planning on placing another order at liberty flights, and I want to make sure I get everything this time. When I bought my e-cig I didn't realize that I would need extra carts , or attys etc. So if you experienced people had a list of thing you needed for my model what would you order? I've already placed 3 orders and it seems like I read about something new after I place an order. I'm trying save on shipping.

Thanks again! You are all so helpful...hopefully I can get off analogs asap! :)

Ps sorry for the typos... It's the ipad

You have a 510 correct? It is really hard in the beginning. I bought my Mom three kits in three weeks trying to find the right one for her. She wouldn't listen to me!

If they're available at Liberty Flights, I'd order two boxes of boge cartomizers, a couple of delrin drip tips. Probably an extra battery and an extra usb charger as well.

If you aren't happy with your current kit, I'd get the ego from Liberty Flight. If any kits are available with cartomizers, get that one. And a box of cartomizer and drip tips. With the ego you can use Low resistance cartomizers (2.0) and you get a better vape.

I have an ego and a 510. Use the 510 to walk the dog,go shopping or want something small, use the ego the rest of the time.
