A warning and a request for suggestions

Heads up out there:

I recently purchased a trial e-cig (Prada) from smokefreely.com or something rather......needless to say, it arrived fairly quickly, and it was so bad, it literally tasted like a cross between mold and a rotten cigar. I mean it absolutely made me cough and cough and cough.

If that wasnt enough, I was suddenly billed $663 through my debit card 2 weeks AFTER I cancelled and returned everything. In fact, i had only ever received the trial pack, and nothing else. Obviously, I almost flipped out. When I called I kept being told that "you agreed to this", etc...to which I repeatedly replied, "I want to speak to your supervisor". Each and every time I said this, I was put on hold for about 30 seconds and when the rep returned she would say the exact same thing, "my manager is busy right now, can you call back". I simply said, "look, my husband is an attorney, I am absolutely NOT letting this go, I have all day, and I will hold until he** freezes over if I have to". Lol. I'm glad I did this, as each time the rep returned from putting me on hold, I would get refunded about $45. After about the 18th time I was told that the "manager was busy and to please call back," I finally threatened legal action.......this was when I finally got ALL of my money refunded. I was truly shocked at what had occurred, and in rereading the fine print discovered that this was NOT even close to the billing agreement.

Then, about 3 weeks later, wa la, there is was again, $663 charge. This time i threatened legal action immediately after I reached a live person, and was quickly refunded every penny. I also cancelled my debit card.

Now, i am not saying this is a scam or an intentional "plan" on their part, i am simply providing a review of what happened to me when I ordered one of their products.

Anyway, my point.......BEWARE.

My question, however, and the 2nd reason I am here, is this......is there ANY ecig out there that even closely resembles the taste of a real cigarette. I mean, come on, we can put a man on the moon, but we can get the taste of a cigarette in a vapor? Lol.

Seriously, though. I smoke Monarch Light 100's and on occasion L & M red box, full flavor 100's. I have got to find something soon........I've been smoking for 25 years and Im pushing the point of no return as far as irreversible lund damage is concerned.

Can anyone recommend something that tastes as close to a real cigarette as possible? And, a rhetorical question..........most people on the ecig are trying to quit the real cigs, one would think that taste resembling a real cigarette would take priority over fruit flavors, lol.

But again, ANY recommendations are truly appreciated at this point.

Thanks!

:)

hi there, i am so glad you were able to get all of your money back, you are probably not the only one this has happened to. there is a sticky that talks about being cautious of 'free trials'. i almost got sucked into one, but backed out at the last minute.

i've only been vaping a little under two weeks, but i totally love it, quickly going down on the cigarettes-down to 3 a day now. when i ordered my Joye510 e-cig, i ordered juices that i thought would taste like tobacco. i also ordered a couple of flavored ones. turns out i don't like the tobacco flavors at all! i have also ordered sample packs from 2 other companies to try new flavors. i love some of the tastes so much that i don't want to go smoke a regular cigarette, lol. i quickly realized that the different flavors were going to get me off the cigs. i had read that on this forum, but i didn't think it would be true for me-it definitely is!!

i really can't help you more than that, i'm too new and don't know much. others will be along to tell you about all the different e-cigs on the market. i'm sure you'll find one that works for you. i kind of think it's more the hand-to-mouth action and the inhaling (along with the nicotine) more than it is the actual taste. seems that way for me, anyway. good luck to you.

Nothing can replicate the taste of burning tobacco that I know of, and truthfully most of us are pretty glad about that after getting over the initial need for that cigarette taste. Like a lot of us have done, after finding the flavors of e-liquid that suit you best you just might come to the conclusion that a lit cigarette tastes more or less like licking the bottom of a dirty ashtray. :p  We do however have some suppliers that make really good non burning tobacco flavors using tobacco absolute. I know a lot of others will probably chime in here with suggestions, but the first place that springs to mind is Backwoods Brew. They have an really nice line of tobacco flavors. Although I haven't tried them yet, Don's 'Smoke' and Virginia are getting really great reviews. I personally like his Applewood when I'm needing a tobacco taste.

Firstly, welcome to the forum.

WOW....I'm glad I'm a long way from this company, that's one expensive ecig...must be the bomb!!!

Regarding flavours, you are going to get a lot of responses, but in my opinion I don't believe there is one that perfectly mimics burning tobacco. Some get close but never spot-on.

When I first started vaping I thought I would only like tobacco flavours and that's all I bought. But over the months your tastes change and you find yourself going in totally unexpected directions.

I started by getting a number of different tobacco flavours and then mixing them together if I liked a bit of one with a taste of another. Threw a coffee flavour in there as well (I like coffee).

However, for the past 3 months I haven't even desired a tobacco flavour. I now like the fruits, mountain dew, coke and I'm currently vaping Spliced Lime (tastes like an ice cream confection we have here in Aus). Go figure!!

EDIT: Right behind you Stormy!

Welcome to ECF. I just looked at the website and "WOW!", $30 for an atomizer. I am sorry to hear you got caught up in one those rip-offs. But, the good news is that it got you here.

Real cigarette taste? You'll hear this answer coming from several of us. You can't recreate the taste of burning leaves and chemicals. There are a lot of great tobacco flavors out there, but each of us can be quite subjective about what tastes good. You might also be surprised how some of the fruity and unique flavors are the ones that kept a lot of us away from cigarettes. I was a menthol smoker for many years and I haven't even had any type of minty flavors in over 2 mos. Some of my favorites are tobacco blends and french toast.

The best suggestion at this point is to check out the Sticky Threads in our new members section. MistressNomad's "I made videos for newbies..." is very informative and the visual aids help quite a bit. ECF has a great selection of registered suppliers and some are highly recommended ones that will never rip you off.

It sounds like you really want to quit smoking. So, just get all of the info you can before making your next purchase. There are a lot of helpful people around here that can help lead in the right direction. Chime in and ask all of the questions you need to so can have the best "restart" into your e-cig experience as possible:)

Welcome to ECF! I'm sorry to hear that you got off to such a rocky start, but I'm glad that you were persistent enough to get all of your money back. It was already suggested that you watch Mistress Nomad's videos and I concur with that suggestion. Those will give you a better idea of what to expect from the world of vaping and help you get started without spending a lot of money. I know that you wanted suggestions for something that tasted like a cigarette, but I can tell you that there aren't any. There are some flavors that might come close, but nothing will duplicate it. My opinion is don't limit yourself. The one thing I find the most wonderful about vaping is the flavor variety. Cigarettes only gave you two options; menthol or non-menthol. Yuk. Vaping opens up a door of endless variety, so be bold and try some different flavors. You might find yourself vaping Cafe Mocha with your morning coffee and vaping Chocolate Eclair for your after dinner dessert.

You may want to repost you experience on this sticky: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/new-members-forum/65772-do-not-order-free-trials.html

The best deal currently available is from Liberty-Flights $30 for the Riva. Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - Riva 510 (Riva 510 Lite Bundle) If it doesn't show up as $29.99, click the 20% off tag at the top of the page, or enter the code ECF at checkout. An excellent and cost-effective place to start.

I 2nd this suggestion! A really great price on a solid product. You can pick up a few different flavors of e-liquid on their website too, to find something that you like.

Sorry you had such a rough time of it Heartnurse, but I'm glad you were able to get your money back and you're still willing to give e-cigs a shot. You've come to the right place. In my experience, the folks here are some of the most well informed and helpful on a subject that you're ever likely to find on the internet. As to a good tobacco-ey flavor, I've found that a Marlboro based flavor with a drop of caramel flavoring comes close to a Marlboro Light taste. My sister gave me the juice I tried this combination on, so I'm not sure of her supplier, but I think it was Mad Vapes.

How much do you smoke, and how willing are you to deal with filling your own equipment (putting liquid into the things)?

The two big families of ecigs are KR808D-1 (808) and 510/eGo/Riva (510), with multiple others that have smaller, but real, fans. "808" and "510" really refer to the battery connector.

The 808 is a classic 2 piece unit, general cigarette form factor, the battery and a screw-on cartomizer, a combined atomizer and cartridge that holds the fluid being vaporized -- a "carto" looks like a cig filter. There are both automatic and manual batteries -- the auto has a vacuum switch that starts the battery when you inhale, while the manual has a little button on the side that you push.

Cartos can be bought pre-filled or empty (blank). The prefilled cartos are available from many places (vapor4life, NHaler, vaporsetc,...), in many different flavors and strengths. A pre-filled carto can, of course, be refilled with eliquid (juice), to save $ and avoid throwing things out too often.

The simplest, lowest work, setup is a KR808D-1 automatic with prefilled cartomizers. For a pretty light smoker (say half a pack a day) the standard batteries are fine, though the XL or Mega batteries (about 1" longer) are much better due to longer run time between recharges.

Liquid comes in different strengths. For a full flavor regular smoker the typical liquid to use is 24 mg/ml, often abbreviated as 24 mg, while some users will only need 18 mg and others will need a 30 or 36 strength (at least for "trigger points" when cig craving really sets in). People who smoked lights typically use a 16 - 18 mg liquid, again with some needing 24 mg while others use 12. (different people have different responses to the nic in eliquid).

The other really popular branch is the 510. The standard 510 is a fairly small battery, lower capacity than a KR808D-1, and lower voltage (which means less power for a given resistance atomizer = cooler, less vapor). Riva and eGo are "fat batt" versions with a 510 connector, much higher capacity batteries, suitable for those who are in the pack a day plus range, don't mind if their equipment doesn't really look much like a cigarette. 510s don't tend to have prefilled cartos -- you buy blanks and fill them yourself, or use carts (cartridges), or drip liquid directly onto the atomizer.

In 510 manual is pretty much it. I don't use atomizers, so for my Riva 510 I use something called the Boge 2 ohm cartomizer -- reasonably warm, satisfying vapor production for me. I have used and continue to use KR808 equipment, too.

So, lots of good choices, depends on what you want to do. Ultra simple, cig like, prefilled = 808. Don't mind pushing a button and filling your own stuff right from the start = 510 family at least worth considering. The liberty flights Riva 510 sale is excellent if you choose that route, though at least in my case I would also look for some of those Boge 2 ohm cartomizers right away (litecigusa and NNaler have them if liberty hasn't restocked yet).

Good luck!

Hi Heart Nurse Who Needs To Quite!

Sorry to hear about your bad experience with that vender.

But don’t give up!

First of all everyone has their own subjective opinion on what e-cig is the best
And which one tastes most like a cigarette. As we are all different and have different tastes.

I have been a lifelong menthol smoker and what works for me may not work for you and vice versa.

My suggestion is to experiment. Get a good mod e-cig and start experimenting with different juices.

IE. Right now (as I right this) I am vaping on the new Boge Leo with a drip tip and the juice I am using is actually a brandy flavored PG. Quite delicious and satisfying for my morning vape.

I’m not sure if I am supposed to do this in this forum or not but I am going to give you a link to a good and reputable
vender that I use. This link will take you directly to their mods page so that you can see what a ‘mod’ looks like.

This vender also sells a new ‘organic’ e-juice that sounds very good to me. I just placed my order for the new juice so I can’t really say anything about it yet. But it is a 50/50 blend of PG and VG.

Here is the link: Electronic Cigarette Kits by Awesome Vapor

Hope that helps. And remember… you need to experiment a bit to find out what will work best for you.

Here is a good pv that won't break the bank. PureSmoker.com - USA Electronic Cigarettes & USA Made eLiquid!!! Check out the ACE kit(it's a kr808) for 29.99. Also look at the extended life battery for 13 or so bucks. Then pick out a couple of packs of cartomizers(they call them ATOMZ on their site), and you're ready to go. It's a good cig sized starter kit. Has done a pal of mine very well.

I think you are being overly generous in regards to your review of this company. This is an obvious scam. I'm glad you managed to avoid being victimized.

You have already received some excellent advice here. I just wanted to welcome you to the forums and wish you a happy journey on your search for the perfect vape.

Why would you wanna vape liquid that has that godawful-taste of a real cigarette? As long as you get your nicotine, you might as well be tasting something much more pleasant than what a real cigarette provides.

Bottom line: Never order trial e-cigs! If you do, you're agreeing to monthly charges for more of their junk!

Try the flavors in a caramel apple with nuts...see below in my signature. Not too fruity, not too sweet, not too tobaccoey...it's actually perfect -- for me, of course, and is all I vape.

read/watch the following in the sticky threads at the top of New members forum
1. the videos for newbies
2. the thread with Library in its title leads to a great multipart guide - part 4 starts covering popular models

You'll notice our popular models mostly have number names and that's because we are buying the original models, not the jacked up price versions rebranded and sold in mall kiosks and on fancy websites. You will like the prices a lot better!

That part 4-5-6 of the guide should be very helpful.

If you are a heavy or chain smoker and/or need really long battery life and don't mind a fat battery model, consider Riva and Ego which are very popular here as you already noticed.

If you have no problem with recharging batteries during the day, take a look at the minis in the guide. I don't really recommend the super-minis because of the even shorter battery life but there are 2 of the best shown in the guide.

And if you want something exotic with higher power that doesn't even looked vaguely like a cigarette, there are those too.

And some hardware vendors I have used and liked:
http://www.litecigusa.net/
http://www.mypvshop.com/ (I was able to customize and mix the colors of my kit there)
http://www.liberty-flights.com/
and I have never used them but have seen CigNot recommended

Juices - so many. My faves are probably FreedomSmokeUSA and Backwoods Brew
