Im in western CT, just spent all day battening down the hatches. The eye of the hurricane is expected to pass right over my house as of current forecasts. I'm well above sea level, but I'm expecting at least 4" of water if not more in my basement. The power company has also gone on record saying that if we lose power, we shouldn't expect it back on for a week.
I'm really hoping it doesn't end up being as bad as people are making it out to be, but I've spent the last two days buying non-perishable foods and stocking up on propane/gas/diesel and batteries. It's absolutely amazing how you cannot find a SINGLE D battery right now. They're just nowhere to be found. Even flashlights; not a single one. I was just at stop and shop where there's no water left, and the bread aisle consisted of only multigrain and oatmeal loaves, which were maybe a dozen at that.
I'm hoping that between my two E-Power 1100mah and 900mah ego I can last a few days. I have an inverter and 3 cars with full tanks of gas if it comes to it. Times like these make me think keeping some normal resistance cartos around might not be a terrible idea.. damn you LR@!
Hope everyone else in the path of the storm stays safe. NYC looks like it's in for a rough time, to say the least.
I'm kind of excited though since the eye is supposed to pass right over, I just got some india ink for my dad's ~60 year old recording barometer. Gotta load it up with some paper and wind her up sometime tomorrow. Should be pretty interesting to see a 24hr graphical representation of the extreme low pressure of a hurricane!
