I am trying to decide what to get for my first DIY stuff, and I have a few questions.

I have occasionally enjoyed clove analogs, but they were too strong for me all the time. Will clove work as a stand alone flavor in a smallish amount, or does it really need a buddy flavor?

Can I use vanilla extract in my juice? I have some amazing ve from Mexico that I would love to vape.

Menthol- go with alc or pg? I assume alc is alcohol based?

I guess that is all for now, but I am sure I will have a million questions soon.

Clove works as a standalone flavor even with other flavors mixed in lol . It overpowers everything . I tried to make a chocolate clove juice once with 15% chocolate and 1% clove and i couldnt taste the chocolate lol . If using as a standalone though all you need is 2-3% max . That is TPA clove im talking about . It does taste like real sweet clove though . Make sure you dont use stuff you want to reuse when working with clove though . You will not get the taste/smell out ever again .

I actually diluted my clove by half and its still overpowering .

The Perfumers Apprentice and Flavor Apprentice are basically the same company. The flavors are made the same way.

If you are first time DIY'er let me give you a few tips:

Most mixes are made with more than one flavor. Flavors are just that, flavors, if you want say strawberry and just use strawberry flavor, it will have zero the sweetness that REAL strawberries have. You will have to add a sweetener like Ethyl Maltol or EM (shorthand on the ECF)to your mix for sweetness.

Any flavor or extract you use should be water soluble. Most store bought flavors are oil based and not usable in vaporizers. Oil based flavors will not not blend properly in your PG/VG mix and will clog your atomizer.

Good luck!

Pete

good advice from members..i like to DIY e-liquids because it is so much more to using ready mix liquid..it is without doubt a very safe way if U follow the instructions and guidelines..i always use the highest allowed to be bought online from reputable suppliers who limit their nicotine max at 36mg..from that safe 36mg liquid i can only dilute down..as i make my own e-liquid from 12 mg to 18 mg which i vape at..i do let my own relative and personal friends vape what i DIY,knowingly i could vape safely 1st..all my ingredients from VG/PG(0 nicotine) and flavorings i use comes from my local bakery supplier and approved for human consumption..this it self gives me the peace of mind that the DIY e-liquids i make is safe to use..as i believe can vape if the ingredient use is fit as food additives for human..only i do not or avoid using oil base flavoring as oil is not conducive in mixing VG/PG to vape and likely to clogged up yr cartomizer/atomizer..Malaysia is a muslim country and all halal flavorings is strictly enforced..no alcohol in our flavoring or any oil not approved..so i have an added "safety net"when i DIY using the ingredients that is halal too..happy vapping every1..any1 care for durian flavor e-liquid? i got a bottle of durian flavor but reluctant to make it..vanilla and cloves in real flavors is oily in substance,i avoid but use the artificial ones in vanilla..regards mafig

mafig i make my own vanilla flavoring and do not find it oily at all...it is made with PGA,VG and PG....tastes pretty good as well

and NO THANKS you can keep the durian all to your self.... i probably wouldnt even open the bottle but that is just me..lol

hi bamsbbq..the natural vanilla pod extract is oily is texture & expensive too..while the artificial vanilla essense, think the compound make to smell like vanilla, that is the one i use..some of the flavorings from real fruits etc etc is fine..but when say orange extract can be oil base too..i choose the non oil base orange..even the oil base is not thick or look oily but i avoid

Picture007-1.jpg

the orange oil on the left and the durian on the right..will not try any1,just yet

Thanks for the tips. My vanilla should be fine, it is definitely water soluable, and that is the only thing I am interested in using other than flavors sold for making juice.

Str8- Do all of the juice mixes need sweetner? If I am using loranns or TPA strawberry, do I need to add sweetner or do you mean if I am using grocery store flavors?

I had my list of flavors whittled down to 8. Now I have to decide what to give up to add the sweetner. I may just have to add it on, cause I don't think I can do without any that are left.

Not meaning to hijack your thread (sorry)

I have never heard of durian, sounds very interesting:

Maybe you would be interested in knowing what the famous 19th century naturalist, Alfred Russell Wallace, had to say after he ate his first durian in Borneo: "A rich, butter-like custard highly flavored with almonds, but intermingled with wafts of flavor that call to mind cream cheese, onion sauce, brown sherry and other incongruities. The more you eat of it, the less you feel inclined to stop."

I would have no problem trying this...

Nope not all mixes . Some do ,some are sweet on their own . I dont use my msts sweetener much at all . If anything ill use like sugar cream ,marshmallow or EM . Nobody uses grocery store flavors .

I recomend going with Capellas over TPA ecpecially if your just starting out . With just 8 tpa your not gonna make much thats really good but with capella you can do a lot with a Little .

I made a nice clove vape a while back for someone. Used a diluted clove base and added FA Anise, FA licorice, FA Camtel Ult., and a tiny amount of cinnamon. Made a nice mild vape. The key to it is to mute the clove.

That sounds great... and my shopping list just keeps on growing. LOL
