I was going to enter but couldn't come up with a good idea for vaping and patriotism. And I didn't have time to get it together. Just my two cents, but it's difficult to get lots of participation if it takes more effort than a post in a thread......

Hi Susan! I know it's some effort - that's why I made the prize amounts pretty high. I'll extend the deadline to August 1 - no hurry, really. Well, I'm sure some are chomping...

BTW - Rick makes some AWESOME wood holders at reasonable prices. He's easy to work with and great with communication. He's customize anyway you want. I just love the one he made me.

Thanks Susan - glad you like your holder. It's fun making them, and something I feel a lot of pride in doing. My Dad was a woodworker & got me started when I was a boy - Miss you Dad <3

Bringing this forward... ;)

It's up to the contestant if they want to re-enter. Each contestant is allowed one entry, so it'll be the last entry in case anyone wants to change a previously submitted pic.

I made a post yesterday that seems to have disappeared/not posted... (so much for 'auto-save'- ha!)

I had mentioned re-posting this in the Contest thread (which you already know!) and also asked a question about Photoshopping.

The idea I had for my photo was to have my hand holding the PV up, like the Statue of Liberty, with the Fireworks in the background... which didn't turn out too well... LOL!!
But I have a video that I shot a few years ago of the same show on the pier, and a friend suggested that I take a still frame from that, take a pic of just my hand with the PV, then 'shop' the 2 together.

I know this is a "photo" contest... but I think as long as I have taken BOTH of the pics, and not just found them on Google or something, it should be able to count... :)

Please let me know if this is okay.

Thanks!!

Yes - you can do that. You might try printing a still, hanging it up somehow, then taking a pic of you holding your PV in the right position in relation to the photo. If you don't have Photoshop, there is a great free photo manipulation program called: GIMP

My printer isn't working too well, but I know my way around PS enough to get the job done... capturing the still was the hard part... LOL!!

Ok, here is my re-vamped entry... :D

Liberty-2Xx.jpg~original

Those lines were taken from the inscription on a plaque inside the Statue of Liberty,
and I thought it was fitting... especially the "Breathe Free" part!! ;)

"The New Colossus" is a sonnet by American poet Emma Lazarus (1849–87), written in 1883. In 1903, the poem was engraved on a bronze plaque and mounted inside the lower level of the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty.

OK! Our first entries showed the creative juices started flowing, now we're cookin' with creativity!

Creative SK- way to go
Great verbiage - very fitting

Nice idea Susan-
Although not a factor, as a photographer I like the lighting - that's nice

Lookin' good Lauralie!
Awesome mural on that truck, xlnt choice as the PV fits perfectly in the talons.

Excellent job spacekitty, Susan W, Lauralie

Competition is starting to look pretty good already

Finally thought of something..........this is actually a picture I took of the front of a truck at a truck show (well part of it anyway)

Awww, c'mon Laura... it's really nice, but isn't that pushing the "photo" part of the contest a bit far?? :p
(and I know you can do better than that!!)

Heck... I could of just entered something like this that I had left over from another contest, said I took the pic of the Eagle, and slapped some words on it... LOL!!

I just posted this link in a Contest page on Facebook, and I really don't think he wants people to think this is just a 'Photoshop' contest... :(

(it makes me sorry I ever asked about 'shopping my pic, and I will withdraw it if necessary)

Oh gee, I didn't know I was supposed to take the photo myself. I guess I have to withdraw my submission as I didn't take the photos. Guess I'm back to the photo booth......

Is why I didn't enter, yes I could ps something up in a heartbeat, but I do not own a camera of any sort so I am unable to take pictures.

And before someone says use your phone, my phone does one thing and one thing only and that is make phone calls! :)

Do you know anyone with a phone with a camera in it? That's what I used in my new photo. I was going to draw a picture of something patriotic until I remembered I had a photo of my mom's quilt.

... and my digital camera doesn't make phone calls, either :D LOL!!
(plus I have no need for a cell phone, anyway)

Heck, I didn't even have a DC until some friends chipped in one Xmas and bought me one... all of my cameras are 35mm, but it got too expensive as a hobby, and even my favorite lab closed down a couple of years ago. I hope to have all of my negs and slides transferred someday...

I've been working with computers since the early 70's, but I'm still old skool when it comes to certain things!!

I would LOVE to get a 35 mm, my first camera was an old 126, then I had a 110 for a while and til it was stolen I had a 35 mm, ...... me off when it was stolen as had the pictures of my daughter right after she was born, I have never gotten another.

((They stole it right out of the diaper bag when my daughter was 3 days old, it was on Easter Sunday))
