I just got my AC9, but cannot wrap a non shorting coil to save my life. I'm not new to the genesis either. I tried with 30 and 28 wire.

Ya, thats a tough one. In my book AC9 is the easiest for me to wrap. Do you lightly oxidize and then pulse? Try to call RipTripper and he will walk you through it. Send him a message somewhere and hopefully you can get in contact with him.

hey everyone, been awhile since i logged on. anyway, one day, i was checking my facebook, and saw their new fill plugs, SO i decided to buy a few and noticed, there were still some new AC9s, so i bought the basic kit. i also bought a few maintenance packs for my older ac9 also.

anyway, i didn't watch any reviews or anything or even read up on here. but when i got it, i disassembled it carefully to clean it and noticed that there wasn't a washer or anything separating the black insulator and the spring, but went ahead and set up a wick and coil, worked out the hotspot, and noticed a plastic taste... i thought it was the fill hole plug, because i didn't wash it, so i took it out, but the plasticy taste was still there. so i thought maybe it was the drip tip, so i swapped it out for a metal drip tip. flavor was still there but fading... i was going to switch out the SS mesh for some fc2000 wick, but noticed the washer was a bit loose... the spring had melted INTO the black insulator a bit. just enough that i can't pry the spring out of the insulator.

It really melted in? I wonder why the spring got that hot.

Maybe when I was working out the hotspots, I'm not sure. I do the same thing with my other gennys, even my other ac9. But I've never seen a spring go directly to an insulator. Usually there would be a nut or washer on the insulator.
