I found this mod for shredding the end of the PTB before dripping while surfing YouTube this evening:
Shredded Pyramid tea bag mod
Thanks GrimmGreen for this great idea.
I found a couple of issues with it myself after trying the mod, but both are akin to the standard and shredded method: I seem to be using TONS of drops with a duration not even closely approaching that of directly dripping the same amount of drops on my atty. Although I felt using the entire rectangle allowed for my cart to hold more e-juice, there was still too much juice being trapped in the folds of the tea bag. Additionally, I lost a lot of TH from the amount of material in the cart. Then I ran into this video:
510 Cart Mod Folded Rolled Frayed PTB
Thanks to RhoNYsEcigs for furthering my own idea...
I used the same amount of the tea bag as in the standard PTB mod (cut the rectangle into two squares, using only one to insert into the cart), frayed the end (which, when expanded, does not tend to fall into the atomizer...an issue I was experiencing with the standard mod), and made a small incision on the TOP of the tea bag before inserting it into the cart. I also made a few more lateral cuts to the bottom to fray the tea bag even more. The results:
1. I was able to put 17 drops(!) into the cart. Before, I was maxing out around 12-13. I didn't even have to wipe the cart off!
2. The TH approaches that of direct dripping...I think the increased airflow from the top snip helps to achieve this.
3. I've been vaping on this mod for a good hour without topping off the cart. I do find it helps if you keep your PV oriented so that the cart continues to flow into the atty (setting it down with the tip facing up--easy to do with an eGo because of the flat end). I'm also not noticing any leaking between the atty and the cone, which I've seen with both of the previous mods.
I might be a bit premature in providing others with this idea, but I think this might be a winner. I'm afraid the tea bag might be too much of a mess to wash and stuff back in the cart, but if you have bought these PTB's to do this mod, you know that you typically get 20 tea bags in a box for around $4...that provides you with 40 filters!
I think I might try recording myself tomorrow and uploading to YouTube...I'll post a link in this thread once I've done so. I'll also post any negatives I discover with the mod to this thread over the next few days.
FYI: I'm using a de-wicked atty, which *might* attrbute to the 'drop economy crisis' I've been experiencing, but this mod might be the ticket to overcoming that circumstance. I also tend to vape heavily, but nowhere near 12-13 drops in a few minutes when direct dripping...
...I'm still vaping on the cart after 90 minutes.
And it only took 60 or so drops (and 2 PTB's) to make the discovery...lol.
