What type of adhesive (readily available) is recomended for tank mods and where can I get it.

I'd use RTV ultra-black,,available at most auto parts stores,,look around and you can find a food grade rtv also

rtv sticks to dang nearit everything except aluminum and stays pliable for its entire life

I did not know they made a food grade RTV. I will check that out.
