Hi all.

I've been using Smoktech dual coil 1.5 ohm cartomizers with a standard Reo Grand for years now. Long enough that I don't know what else is out there that's decent. From the looks of it, rebuildables are all the rage these days, but I'm looking for something mindless... use it until it gets weak and toss it.

I don't need a tank so I assume I'm just looking for another cartomizer or maybe an atomizer. Any recommendations/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Cartomizers are getting more and more difficult to find nowadays. As a long time cartotank user myself, I found it necessary to discontinue carto's altogether about 3 years ago.

I know that you believe that you don't need a tank, but your only other option will be to learn to build your own coils for a RDA (rebuildable drip atomizer). If I were you, I'd look into both a clearomizer tank and a RDA and see which may suit your needs best.

  1. Proper Terminology: Is it a carto, a tank, or what? A Guide to Juice Delivery Devices
    • A picture dictionary for beginners with descriptions of clearomizers, nano's, drip atomizers, bottom feeding mods, cartomizers, cartotanks, and RBA's (rebuildable atomizers). Includes video demos/reviews of all devices.
  1. Information Resources for Your First RBA
    • An essential read and referrance guide for someone new to rebuilding coils. Includes a multitude of useful links on battery safety, mod safety, coil meters, coil building, and the differences in the three types of RBA's.
One of the more reliable and carefree clearomizer tanks would be the Aspire Nautilus. For a Reo, I'd suggest the Mini. The vaping experience is much like a cartotank, and the coils last about as long as a carto did (2 - 4 weeks). Changing coils is easy and takes about 5 minutes (including priming the coil).

Since a Reo was designed to be a bottom feeding mod, Reo makes special rebuildable drip atomizers to take advantage of the bottom feeder ability. Homemade coils can last several months but installing new cotton wick will be necessary every 3 - 4 days. Very cost effective in the long run. Best flavored vape available today.

If you are using a standard Reo Grand your options are limited. I see a brass RM2 still listed on the Reosmods website. Except for that and the Chalice III all the others are for low profile Grands only. You could email Eric at Reosmods and ask about getting your Grand a "haircut". I'm not sure what it costs to have it ground down, but it would be worth it if you really like the Reo (I know I do!).

If you get your Reo ground down to low-profile you can use virtually any squonk atomizer. While I love my RM2's I found that the Origen Little O-16 clone from Fasttech works just fine on either my Reos or the Pico Squeeze. It's pretty easy to build on too. I know you said you don't want to build but it's not that hard and if you can't find cartomizers anymore you may want to consider it.

If you are not willing to build coils and you're not dedicated to the Reo there are multitudes of mods (regulated or mech) and tanks that you could invest in. Not that you can't use a tank on the Reo but it kind of defeats the purpose of squonking. Many tanks use a replaceable atomizer core that you just use until it wears out then you replace it.

Personally, I prefer to build my own coils (and make my own juice) simply for the reason that I am not dependent on the whims of the market (i.e., parts that become dated and no longer readily available, like 510 cartomizers and atomizers).

I'm trying to make sure I understand your set up. Do you have a mechanical box mod with a single 18650 battery, and a cartomizer attached to the 510 connection on top, and a bottle of juice stored inside the mod that you take out to refill the cartomizer?

The OP has a Reo Grand, which is a squonk mod. Your description of the mod is accurate enough, but the juice feed is by squeezing the bottle. No need to take the bottle out. It has a tube that goes up to the 510 connector. Both the 510 connector AND the atomizer positive pin must be hollow or have a channel for the juice to flow up into the atomizer. It's basically dripping without having to drip, with the bonus that any excess juice simply flows back down into the bottle.

That's what I was wondering, a squonk cartomizer?

I believe All cartos and all old attys are squonk-able.

Ahhh. I did not know that. Interesting. I've got a KT DP160 and I've played around with the atty that came with it and the squonker option on my Aspire Quad Flex Survival Kit. They're both a nice enough MTL with dual coils at about 0.75 Ohms doing 15W-25W depending on how harsh I want to hit, mimicking a cig or a cigar. Maybe I'll grab some carts and play with those.

Can ya vape that low of wattage? Surevapes was always a good place for cartos.

I have a 50/50@12nic in my bottle. I can take it down to 12W if I want to mimic a "light" cig. Or I can take it up to 35W on break if I'm having a crappy day at work for a nice slap in the face.

Wow, I do admire a fellow that sticks with what got him there. It's simple, it works, sure is a money pit replacing carts. If you can follow super X's video above on a dripping RDA and clapton prepare to have you mind blown with flavor compared to the carts you are using and huge drop in nicotine level. The RDAs after the purchase are cheaper, better flavor, and more efficient delivery device with just a little effort and knowledge.

Added: I still have my 14mm REO woody with a cup, so I know where you are coming from.

Lots of places have Clearanced their cartos in the last 2 months to a year or so ago, at really dirt cheap prices = box of 5 for $.99, or even less on some of them. There have been both Boge and Smok cartos for that price. They are getting much more scarce now though.

Cheapest I've seen the little 510 shorty attys Clearance priced, too, has been $.99 each. Some places still haven't dropped the price for them though and are still asking $3-6 each for them!
