I would definitely not get a mini 510 and would also skip the eGo because it is only 3.4 volts. But in the eGo category, I would suggest either the E-Power 510 or the Riva UNC. Both are true 3.7 volt models unlike the eGo. I would pick the E-Power because the batteries only cost $4 - $5 unlike the eGo batteries that cost $14 - $20 each and the batteries last 4 - 5 times longer (lifetime wise) than the eGo's also. Why spend more money for less. Here are several well supported suppliers (one in the UK and one in the US):

Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - E-Power

Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - Riva 510

e-Power

I would go with a Riva kit from Liberty Flights. You can get get a regular kit with 2 batteries and two atomizers for about $30 or a kit with two batteries and a box of cartomizers for about $35 - make sure you click on the 20% discount on the top left of the screen. The riva will deliver more voltage than the eGo (3.7V vs. 3.2-3.4V) and the batteries are compatible with all eGo accessories.

But why pay 3 - 4 times more for batteries that have a 4 - 5 times shorter life span? The Riva is a good beginner model, however, and better than the eGo, just not as cost effective as the E-Power.

Hi Newcomer,
I've tried 'em all... I recommend a Riva SE battery (available at Liberty Flights for $11.99 with 20% off "ECF" code). It's available in 510, and puts out an extra .5 +/- volts, which makes a big difference! For cartomizers, try the new Kanger 510 horizontal coil cartomizers (available at Vapin' in the Cape.com, $9.99 for 5). Paired with the Riva SE battery, you won't be disappointed. Don't forget to order the cone, eliquid and charger for the battery - the cone is cosmetic, and the USB charger will charge your battery in about 2.5 hours. A new carto holds about 30 drops, or .9ml eliquid. This is the perfect setup for newbies, very inexpensive, and you'll love it! Under $40 (under $50 with an extra battery which you will want) for all the parts and it will put ANY standard starter kit to shame! Good luck and Happy Vaping!

The Riva batteries will easily last 6 months. The ePower cost 50% more that the Riva. If you look at 6 months, the Riva is the most cost effective. If you look at 1 year, having to get 2 additional batteries for the Riva the ePower may be more cost effective assuming your switch still works and you don't have to replace it.

I agree with the person who said you should get a standard eGo kit and some cartomizers. I prefer the Dual Coil Cartomizers. They are so cheap and work so much better than all of the other options I've tried. I don't like the Ego-T much because it leaks A LOT if you hold it upright for more than two seconds. Drives me nuts. With the dual coil cartomizer, it NEVER leaks and holds a ton of fluid. Nice vapor and throat hit too.

The average number of times you can recharge a Riva/ego battery is 150 - 200 times (about 6 months). The average number of times you can recharge the E-Power batteries is 1000+ times - a BIG difference in life span and cost. You will have to buy 5 Riva batteries at an average cost of $15 or $75 to equal the initial investment of the E-Powers $4 batteries. And in the off chance you have to replace the E-Power's switch, it only costs $12 which is less than ONE Riva/ego battery/switch. And the E-power only costs $15 to $20 more than the Riva, if that, depending on where you get it, which is the cost of one Riva/ego battery. The Riva/ego are good models but cost "losers" in comparison to the E-Power in the long run.

I started using the eGo about 2 1/2 weeks ago (I'm a newbie too). It has been great and has really cut back on my "real smoking" to the point where I'm almost done with wanting a real one. The only problem I'm finding (and I've posted a few questions on other threads regarding this) is that after a couple of weeks with the eGo I am wanting something stronger (for that throat hit). Of course, now I'm wondering if I do go to something stronger (a mod or something like that) will I eventually want something even stronger than that? I will say, the eGo has been a great purchase. It is relatively inexpensive and small enough to carry easily... and the parts that need to eventually be replaced (atomizers & batteries) are easy to find and also inexpensive to replace. Whatever you decide to go with... good luck!

the 3.7 kits are better for hit in my thought. The ego batteries have lasted over a year for me but the "up" for a 3.7 is better.Off topic a touch , a kit needs juice and imo a ton a samplers(small juice bottles) is a lot more important than longevity of a disposible ecig.hope it works out , it did for me, vapeon.
