Alright - have done much looking around here and I am certain I want an eGo but when I go to a site to purchase, I get overwhelmed with what I need. And for that matter, what I don't need. Help please!

I am looking at the eGo-C Twist VV 900 mAh. Good choice? And it is manual, correct? Also found Joye EGO-C Manual Switch Battery for 10 bucks less. It is definitely manual and 650 mAH. Maybe that is good enough for what I need?

Also looking at a 5 pack of Joye 510 empty cartridges to start. Good idea or should I get a tank to really eliminate constant refilling? FYI - I will be using these as a regular cigarette and I smoked no more than 1 pack in 24 hrs.

If the consensus is to get a tank, does it matter which one? I like the look of the Vision Vivi Nova Tank but it is plastic. Is that an issue? I see some that are more expensive but I am working with a budget here hence the original choice to get empty cartridges for the time being.

If i go with a tank, do I need anything else? To rephrase that, if I have the eGo-C Twist, a cute colorful tank and e liquid, what more do I need?

Any and all input is so very much appreciated. I know these questions are probably annoying but remember, I know nearly nothing. Except, of course, that I want to enjoy vaping as much as possible. :p

Don't get one battery get two. Whilst one is charging you can use the other. VIVI's, CE5 V3's, Kanger T3 clearo's are all good. Trust me you'll end up try them all anyway. Most people would recommend the vivi nova. Plastic is not an issue but i've heard citrus juices can cloud the tank or damage it in some way or other. You could also look at vision spinner batteries the more mah the better so try the 1300mah if you can find them. You will also need a charger cable "and" wall plug.

Ego C Twist batteries are good but you want two of them, one to use and one on the charger. They are manual batteries. I would steer away from those empty "cartridges" I think those are the "old school" ones that you put on top of an atty? I would go with a tank. Tanks/Cartomizers/Clearomizers are one piece that contains the atomizer and holds your liquid. Not a tank expert, I'm sure someone will come on here to advise you on which ones are best. I would purchase more than one tank. They do not last forever, and nothing is worse than having it break and not having anything to vape. The other thing you will need is a charger for those Ego batteries.

Since you are on a budget the Ego/Tank combo is a really good and economical way to start!

I have the ego c starter kit and love it! Definately get 2 batteries. I originally had 1 battery because I gave my husband the other one and my battery kept running out. Also the clearomizer that came with it was not that great, I was having to suck really hard to get good vapor, so yesterday I got the vivi and it is a lot better. If you want to switch flavors a lot like I do its more convenient to have several clearomizers also! I am new to this, but I was a smoker and have not wanted to touch a cig in 6 days I am having so much fun with this! :)

I own both Twists and Spinners and also prefer and recommend the Spinner...

Twist comes in 650, 900 and 1000 mah. Dial very narrow/ smooth and not easy to turn. Voltage numbers very hard to read/ invisible. Button occasionally sticks.

Vision Spinner comes in 400, 650, 900, 1100 and 1300 mah. Wide knurled voltage dial easy to turn and easy to read voltage markings. 1300 mah Spinner is the same size as 1000 Twist.
Both variable voltage PVs above fire from 3.3-4.8 volts.
I owned the Twists and now use them as backups because the dial was hard to turn and I could not clearly see the voltage markings.
1300 Vision Spinner- 113mm or ~4.4 inches long; 16MM WIDE, 2MM WIDER THAN A STANDARD EGO
1100 Vision Spinner- 119mm or ~4.75 inches long
1000 Twist- Length 120mm(4.75")/Diameter 14mm

If the consensus is to get a tank, does it matter which one? I like the look of the Vision Vivi Nova Tank but it is plastic. Is that an issue? I see some that are more expensive but I am working with a budget here hence the original choice to get empty cartridges for the time being.

I enjoy using the Mini Vivi Nova with replaceable heads (coil+ wick). Holds 2 ml juice and when the heads wear out can be cheaply ($1.50 each) and easily (10 secs) replaced. The head, with regular cleaning, should last a minimum 4-6 weeks. As for using plastic tanks some acidic juice will etch/ damage the tank. They also sell metal Mini Vivi Novas to resolve the issue of vaping acidic juices. If you do buy the Vivi make sure to buy the smaller "Mini" as it looks best on the Twist and Spinner.
You may also want to buy a Thread Sleeve to hide the threads:

I recommend either a eGo Vision Spinner (easier to read settings, easier to use voltage dial) or an eGo Joyetech Twist, minimum two. You will need the appropriate charger and possibly an USB/wall unit to provide the option to charge away from a computer port.

single coil cartomizers.jpg

A pack (5) of blank single coil cartomizers at 2.5-3.0 ohm resistance.

clearomizer.jpg

A couple of clearomizers (Vision or Kanger T3) to try.

vivi-nova-mini.jpg

A mini Vivi Nova clearotank to try.

All the above can be found at Altsmoke. http://altsmoke.com/

Thank you so much for spelling it out for me. Funny - your suggestions are pretty much what I had in mind. I am inclined to avoid the kits (and it turns out others - like Darkhood - have said that is best) but was afraid I would leave off something important. Now I know I am good with a la carte thanks to all the advice. It does kind of suck that the best financial deal is a kit with two batteries but I really want to customize more than a kit allows so might have see if my budget will allow me design my own, so to speak.

Wow, you guys are awesome!

I went with a Ego twist with stardust and Tank cartomizer. I went to a local e cig store so i could check everything out in person. I thought the 1000 mah would be too big compared to the 650 mah because some people stated it was like holding a spear. My first impression was that the 650 looked too small. Maybe because I have big hands. As far as getting a kits, I was always told to avoid them and get just the parts you need that way you can pick and choose your accessories. Plus most kits have a standard color or model. I had a hard time finding ego twist kits.

I got the ego twist 1000 mah for $28, Stardust $5, Boge F16 for $7, charger $8, and 2 Bottles of juice for $12. $60 total. About the same price as a carton of cancer sticks. So not too bad.

Use VaporSearchUSA to see if there's a local shop near you so you can see the products in person.

When I first got started I went with an ego-C pass through with clearomizer and a DCT tank to try. I found that the clearo let me taste my liquids better but the DCT tank allowed for longer periods between fills, 2-3 days for my use. I then progressed to a Kranger because the guy at the local vape spot told me it can handle a higher volt, so I bumped up my ego and the vapor was indeed warmer, larger cloud, and delicious!

If you can start with a vv passthrough (so you can vape while charging(perfect for at the computer)) and a kranger. And grab some PSV Rip-tide if you like menth/raspberry for a beautiful looking starter setup.

Ahhh... I have been interested in a passthrough but I have to ask what may be the dumbest question ever - can it be used off the charger? I swear I think when I first started researching all of this, I came across one (maybe on V2's website) that could not be used unless it was plugged into the USB. Surely there are those that work while using the passthrough, charge and can be used when removed from the USB, right? The trouble is that they don't specify this in the descriptions so while it may be a stupid question, I would really feel dumb if I ended up with a battery that kept me attached to my computer.

Yes you can buy a pass through that can be disconnected and used away from the charging station/ usb port.
