Aegis X battery indicator abnormality

Recently purchased a Aegis X with the Z Sub-ohm tank and noticed an abnormality in the battery indicator.

When fully charged batteries are inserted, the right indicator is nearly always one charge indicator bar down while the left indicator shows full. If I swap the batteries around, the left still shows full charge and the right indicator one bar down.

Sometimes with fresh batteries, both indicators will show full charge, but one cycle of the power button and the right indicator immediately drops one bar.

Through the day as I use the vape, both indicators fall as usual, but the right indicator is always one bar below the left. They only level out when one bar is left remaining on both left and right indicators.

I went back to the place of purchase and we tried out their display mod. It exhibited the same behavior.

Is this a software bug?

Try cleaning the four battery contacts in your Aegis X.

And, welcome to ECF.

No 2 batteries are exactly the same, even when they are a "married" pair. Also geekvape firmware is pretty much suck, as is all Chinese mod stock firmware. Your only option is to just deal with it.

even the display mod at the store exhibited the same issue

That tells me the mod functions exactly as GV designed it to function. These aren't like cars where years go into R&D.

Chinese mods are cheap. Their modi operandi: get them designed, made and out the door fast.

Who knows, there may be a slightly longer wire leading to the battery positioned on the right side may be causing this.

Or perhaps they ran out of the wire they were using and had to use different wire (spec'ed the same) from a completely different company (or the same one). Even wire from the same company has accepted +/- tolerances.

Would that make it a problem??? No, not for a cheap vape mod (or a host of other electronic devices).

It vapes, yes??? Yes.

It hasn't failed on you, has it??? Not that you've mentioned.

Then don't let your brain fool you into thinking both battery indicators must read identical. If you do, then you'll continue to be, ummm, disappointed due to your expectation. :)

If the mod functions as desired your best option is to live with it, as is.

Others on ECF have had the exact same issue you've described with other vendors dual battery mods. They lived with it OR they tried other mods. :)

As UJ mentioned there are differences between all batteries and that is to be expected.

No two batteries will ever be identical. Close??? Yeah sure, but never identical. Batteries are manufactured within vendors accepted ( +/- ) tolerances.

See Mooch's blog for very detailed battery information. He is widely considered 'The Battery Expert'.

Good luck !!!

Yeah...
Since I can swap the batteries around and get the same results, it purely has to do with the mod. Three different pairs of batteries with the same end results.

I wouldn't have purchased another Geekvape product if it weren't for the fact they are very durable despite their sometimes odd behavior.

That being said, this purchase will probably be my last from them.

Appreciate your responses.

Arctic Fox firmware has a setting you can go in and mess around with to make the battery charge level indicators on a dual battery mod more even. However that firmware is not compatible with any geekvape mods and the dual batt mods that it is compatible with are very hard to find these days.

I have never owned a DNA dual battery mod, but it is possible DNA chips/firmware are better at showing actual charge levels on dual batt mods. You may want to look into these. Of course, they won't be $50 lol

That said, I doubt this issue with your Aegis X mod really means much in the grand scheme of things. Probably more of an annoyance than anything crucial. That's a very popular mod despite this.

See this reddit post. Read all the comments. Shimming the contact on the side of the battery that's showing low may be your "solution". This solution was made in response to one battery not showing a charge at all, however your issue may be the beginning of that issue so this may be your solution.

But as was stated already, make sure that all your positive and negative battery contacts on the mod are clean as a whistle, that includes the ones at the bottom of the battery wells. Clean the WHOLE contact that is on the door, not just the the parts that actually contact the battery.

Also clean the contacts on your batteries very well, too.

Also, if you look on the mod under the battery door, you will see a brass spring-loaded pin. Clean that well. too.

I found another readdit post (sorry I closed that tab and not gonna go looking for it again lol) that said this battery issue with the Aegix X is a crappy/faulty chip (I don't know specifically which) and that it has been fixed by people who found a suitable chip from another electronic device and replaced the crappy one in the mod. THis i snot a solutio for most vapers but the point is that ultimately this is a manufacturing problem on the Aegis X, actually a quality problem. No surprise. This may or not be your problem, too, assuming what I read is the truth (you gotta take what you read on reddit with a bag of salt).
