Trying to build my AGA-S and having some issues (go figure ) . Every time I build a wick and coil I'll measeure ohms , say 2.0 ohms . I then fire it and the ohms drp by 50% and I get a lo ohm reading . Also constantly getting a hotspot between the positive post and the wick , that's where the coil pops . What am I doing wrong ?

Dry burn it a few times, see if that fixes it. If your PV is VV you should lower the voltage to the minimum to dry burn it. If you can't dry burn it away you will need to move that top loop, specifically the part of it where it changes from glowing red to not glowing. Then you will probably need to dry burn it again with the coil in the new position.

the ohms dropping is a short in the coil or the coil to the wick. make sure it is not touching the bottom of the tank..

what kind of device is it being set up on? go as low as you can voltage wise to give you a bit more room for reaction before overheating and popping.
make sure the coil is evenly spaces and wrapped with even pressure around the wick.

i have also read the centerpost is kinda far away from the wick position, and some people have fixed this with small washers as too much slack or excess wire can cause this also.

Right now using it on my lavatube as my VAMO gave up the ghost . I have been dry burning and that is when the ohms drop . I set device at lowest setting . It sounds like my coil is not tight enough on the wick . The post being to far away is on the T , not the S . I tried it with the smallest washer possible a #1 and it was to close . may also be having an issue with the wick touching the bottom of the tank . Will try a few things and see what's up .

For that hot spot between the top coil and the post, try putting a kink in it. I use a pair of needle nose pliers and pinch the top coil so that the wire comes off the coil in an "L" straight to the post. If the hot spot is on the coil where it wraps around the wick, try nudging the coil when dry firing it until the top coil glows the same as the other coils.

I am a big fan of using loops at the end of my coil. someone suggested I try it the 1st time I asked for help rebuilding and I've been doing it ever since. I just double up the end of my coil where it goes around the center post and I'm usually good. That takes away the hot spot between the center post and the wick. And then as far as the voltage dropping, try pulling the tail of the wick thats going through the right post tighter, that seems to help me with making my wick tighter around the coil and keeping shorts away. Instead of clipping my wires right away, I like to fold them UP and keep them away from posts and the bottom of the tank. That way if you need to make a change, you haven't clipped it too short.

So this is the best video for my favorite method... Its called the drill bit method, and eliminates most shorts due to how its built...

Also the comment on kinking the top positive post is a good one.. as michliu said, forcing the wire to leave your wick at a sharp angle helps force the heating after the kink... the way I explained it was to make it look like the leg off of the capital letter Q following the curve until finally turning sharp and going straight to the nuts.
