the vamo can definatly handle the 30g wire. the 30g is better in every aspect then the 32g. with all these trys, have you hand wrapped the wick or used a drill bit?

I tried hand wrapping but that was a mess so I’ve been sticking with the drill bit.

I’ve read that the 30g is problematic; could you share some insight as to why the 30g is better? I’m 100% sure the problem with my 30g wrap was I was getting micro-shorts… so I see where you were headed with ‘drill bit vs. hand wrap'.

So with the small piece of 32g nichrome I wrapped a small amount of cotton (from a cotton ball) around the top of the wick (as per Petar K Method with a Hybrid Wick ) and the ohms were stable at 2.6 but the wick couldn’t keep up (dry hits).

I removed two wraps and now I’m at 1.6, the wick is keeping up (w/fill screw in) AND I CAN TASTE MY juice!!!! It’s not “knock-me-out wow” but it’s a lot, lot, lot better! I am now getting the “hot top leg” so in the morning I’ll head over to Ace and pick up some washers.

When the #500 comes in I’ll remake a 30g coil, keep the tiny amount of cotton on the wick, see if the ohms stabilize and compare it (taste) with the 32g. Right now I’m happy-happy-happy!

EDIT: I should retract that the 30g is problematic (in general); it’s problematic for newbs (like me) in the beginning so learn to hand wrap w/32 then move on to 30g and watch for micro-shorts (ohm jumping)- fair statement?

Disco,
When switching from carto tanks, clearos or just cartos--to an RBA the draw will seem very airy!!! It did for me, but give it some time and you'll get used to it!!

As far as your flavor issues, I think you just need to keep vaping on that wick....get it seasoned and the flavors will pick up!! I hate using new wicks, it takes a good 3 tanks for me to start getting the flavors Im used to. You could try to do a few juice burns on the the wick before setting up, I have notice that this lessens the break in time, JMO.
I like the 30G wire better than the 32G. Most of the time I run 30G with a 3/4 wrap about 1.2 to 1.4 ohms. The 30G wire is thicker (obviously), has less resistance and produces better flavor and vapor. If you really want to kick it up try some 0.8 Ribbon wire....it'll blow the back of your head off!!!
Good Luck, just give that wick some time to break in, it usually takes about 3 tanks to start coming in.
