the vamo can definatly handle the 30g wire. the 30g is better in every aspect then the 32g. with all these trys, have you hand wrapped the wick or used a drill bit?
I tried hand wrapping but that was a mess so I’ve been sticking with the drill bit.
I’ve read that the 30g is problematic; could you share some insight as to why the 30g is better? I’m 100% sure the problem with my 30g wrap was I was getting micro-shorts… so I see where you were headed with ‘drill bit vs. hand wrap'.
So with the small piece of 32g nichrome I wrapped a small amount of cotton (from a cotton ball) around the top of the wick (as per Petar K Method with a Hybrid Wick ) and the ohms were stable at 2.6 but the wick couldn’t keep up (dry hits).
I removed two wraps and now I’m at 1.6, the wick is keeping up (w/fill screw in) AND I CAN TASTE MY juice!!!! It’s not “knock-me-out wow” but it’s a lot, lot, lot better! I am now getting the “hot top leg” so in the morning I’ll head over to Ace and pick up some washers.
When the #500 comes in I’ll remake a 30g coil, keep the tiny amount of cotton on the wick, see if the ohms stabilize and compare it (taste) with the 32g. Right now I’m happy-happy-happy!
EDIT: I should retract that the 30g is problematic (in general); it’s problematic for newbs (like me) in the beginning so learn to hand wrap w/32 then move on to 30g and watch for micro-shorts (ohm jumping)- fair statement?
