Followed pbusardo's video on youtube just so I can get the hang of things first and then planning on trying pdib's build.
Built a 32ga Kanthal and 400 ss mesh. Did a 4/5 wrap coil and got 1.2ohm on my vamo, then i added 1 more wrap, and it went to 1.1ohm, then added another wrap and it went to 1.0ohm. What am I doing wrong? All the coils seem to be evenly spaced and are firm around the oxidized wick, but not too tight and not too loose.
Wierd thing is when I try to fire it on my vamo or zmax, it says "lo", but it fires fine on my spinner

Hey. So, it's been a while since I've used 32g; but I think a proper reading of a 4/5 wrap oughta be around 2Ω +/-. I'm thinking its not your coil. Aside from if your ss wick is touching the positive post (which it really shouldn't), think in terms of the atty. Are all your insulators in place and not smooshed beyond function? (little rubber parts at bottom of atty stem, at top under nuts.) Is your positive post shoved way up into the 510 connection of the atty?

Thanks for the input guys!

Finally figured out the problem. I ordered 32ga kanthal from 2 vendors, 1st order from an "unnamed vendor" is what I used to build my first failed setup. When I recieved my 2nd shipment from steam monkey with 32ga and 30ga I compared it to the other vendors wire and found out the 1st vendor shipped me 28g instead!(honestly didn't notice until I compared it to steam monkeys).

It wicks and vapes great now, except for a strong metallic flavor. How do I get rid of it?

If you are getting a strong metallic flavor - then you must still be having a short or hot spot issue. Sometimes they are not noticeable in the light. Try firing somewhere it is not so much light and look for the hot spot or short.
Even check with a magnifying glass (if you have one) a look to see if all of the coil is completely touching your wick. The should be not air between your coil and the wick.

Make sure that you a proper oxidized wick - can you check it with a meter? This will ensure that you have the wick ready for coiling.

Keep trying. It is worth the effort.

Yep, ↑, that taste comes from wire glowing when it shouldn't (when its wet/vaping). Could be (1) loose coiling (one wrap, or all of it). Could be (2) the hot "leg": wire is glowing between wick and + or - post. Could be (3) a short into the mesh. A short (with a dry setup) looks like glowing along the wire until you reach a place where there is a bright pinpoint of glow (the short's entry point) and no/less glowing after passing that point.

Fixes:
1: wrap tighter or adjust coil tension to even it out.
2: reduce tension of + (top) or - (bottom) wrap; hot leg is caused by "pulling" too hard from wick to post
3: "pick" and move the wire off of the short location. While firing, jiggle it off the short/hot spot

4. You can try pulsing with your battery and sometimes the hotspot will move on down your coil until it is gone (better done with a mechanical mod).
5. Double twist the coil top leg / bottom leg before connecting to the + post or - post respectively (which ever leg is given you the problem).
6. Make sure your wick is NOT touching the + post or the bottom of your tank

Sorry to add to the list - but there are so many variables in getting a good coil/ wick setup.
