So I built my second coil on my aga today. 28g kanthal 12 wrap microcoil 1.7 ohms. It worked great for about half a tank and then the vapor production started going and when I refilled I started getting a harsh (not burnt or metallic) flavor. There appears to be no hotspots, wick is well oxidized, I've toyed with air hole placement and wick height. I've tried 6.0-8.5w on my tesla and I'm dumbfounded why my evod is outperforming this genny.

Suggestions or ideas would be great. If it makes any difference I cleaned my wick and tank with water before recoiling and gave it a good dry burn.

what kind of wick are you using? mesh? so none of your legs are glowing past the contact with the wick? if not it might be possible that the heat of the micro coil may have made a slight hole in the mesh, this might not be visable by the naked eye. this had happened to me once. the way to spot it is to torch the wick, and as it glows you can spot it. it is important that the wire stops glowing as soon as it comes off the wick. is the wick keeping up? with a good mesh wick it should not glow the wires while vertical. you should be able to fire in the upright position without vaping for a good amount of time before the wires glow, unless you use a straw type wick with a big hole in the center.

It was fine. Someone gave me the idea that with a vertical micro coil that all the vapor was escaping from the top of the wick and possibly overheating on its way.

Working on a new wick an 30g 4/3 wrap which is just giving me too pot hotspots like crazy. Tried rewrapping it several times making sure the top coil wasn't too tight playing with the coils.

Grr. I will conquer this!
