At 2 and a half weeks, I just started with stuff coming up...but, I also started power vaping a new liquid I got...lemon meringue...just can't seem to put it down, so it could be that's irritating and drying my throat too the last couple of days. Lots of pollen here in NJ too, so who knows. I smoked the skinny Virginia Slim cigs for decades and never did have a smoker's cough.

Interesting--I thought I was a weirdo for not getting the "clearing lungs" cough. PAD smoker (Camel Filters) for 30 years, so I agree with others that I don't think it matters how much/how long you smoked. Coughed up plenty of crud while I was smoking, though. Also couldn't breathe at night (wheezing, heavy chest) and shortly before I started vaping I would find myself waking up to clear my lungs.

Within a week of vaping exclusively, all that had gone away.

I guess there is really no way to say for sure who will experience what is considered the lung cleansing cough after quitting cigarettes. I smoked for 38 years, anywhere from a half a POD to a POD. I had sorta hoped I would experience this "cleansing" but it sounds like it doesn't really matter in the long run, since quitting smoking and switching to vapor is a much healthier option regardless.
Great what Coldpunk said! Really good to know this!
"Side note I've been watching my lung performance progress on a spirometer as well and it's been astounding!"

Also, I love this forum! Thanks for sharing your experiences with phlegm!

I smoked for 13 years initially a pack a week progressing to a pack a day, the first 12 I smoked Marlboro Menthol Ultra Lights the last year I smoked Natural American Spirits Menthol light. While smoking I usually only coughed the next morning when out at a club when I never paid attention to the amount, other than that no cough. I have been vaping since the end of January I have been coughing alot and late in the evenings I cough alot.

Wondering how do you know if you have a PG allergy?

I've not had a cig since October, 6 months!, and never have coughed up phlegm. I don't know if I wasn't a deep inhaler or since I'm a singer, my lungs got quite the work out all the time? Some do have that problem and some don't. I'm not worried that I've so much damage that they aren't healing. :). My vocals are stronger and I have much better breath control since switching.
Dang! I can't believe you were still able to sing after 36 years! :?: my voice went all to crap and I sooooooo want it back !!! :(
I'm no "singer" singer but I lovvvvve to sing just because I'm a happy sing-ey type person. :D All those 46 years of smoking haved reduced me to whistling and that gets on people's nerves. But I whistle anyway. :p Nobody is stealing my happy.

How long until I get my former voice back? I'm a couple octaves lower now...used to be a half way decent soprano...now I just sound like an old goat.

Did you cough? I am curious about this as I have heard it mentioned several times, that as the cilia begin to move in the lungs after quitting smoking, the natural cleansing process begins to occur and people cough up phlegm. I have experienced none of that and was curious to know how common it is.

"Stopping smoking can undo the damage to cilia rather quickly. In fact, they begin to repair themselves and regenerate in number within only three days after quitting. It should be noted that coughing is a common side effect to this process and may last from a few days to several weeks. This is because the restored cilia are working overtime to remove impurities and mucous from the lungs.

The history of smoking, in my world. When I quit smoking after 13 years, the FIRST time, I coughed up everything but the kitchen sink. I was smoke free for four whole years. Then, I started up again for about two years, or so. When I quit the SECOND time, no coughing, no nothing. My sinuses were the worst thing for me the second time around. Now this time, the THIRD attempt, I find I do not cough at random at all, but I do cough each time I inhale on my vaper. The Menthol-like flavour makes me cough the most. I smoked menthol analogs. The regular tobacco flavor, which I did not think I would like at all, is nearly my favourite right now. All of the flavours I've tried with Blu make me cough when I inhale. Coughing at other times, not so much. I really think it's individual. Quitting analogs IS healthy whether or not we perceive it to be. The mind is a powerful thing....well, at least mine used to be. What was I talking about?

I don't have that pure voice, just a tad husky. I think I was able to keep the vocals by using them but not over using them? I'm not really sure how I'm still able to sing. I've talked to others that say that they can't sing anymore due to smoking. I guess I just got lucky  not sure what my range is but I can get as high as Olivia Newton John and go low into bass range. Although those really low notes are not sustainable. It hurts. ;)

Trying to think of a song that has some good range.....Adele, Rolling in the Deep. I do that one very well.

Practice your breath control. I think that is the key. When I smoked, I did more of a shallow intake. When I sing, I fill the lower part of my lungs and diaphragm.
