I'm using Kanthal A1 32ga. If I wrap it about 4-5 times, then I get 1.8-2.2 ohms.
One note, there is another wire people use: Nichrome. However, Nichrome at 32ga will give you 3ohms or more. Different properties. I tried it first before I figured the difference out.
They are tiny! It takes patience - I have tossed a few that I messed up. I would plan on some trial and error. My hobby is watches so I have tools to work on them. I use a magnifier on a headband to do the winding and it makes a huge difference - much easier to see. You can get these on ebay or amazon for under $10.
You also need to be careful about winding the coil too tight. I use a pin and wrap the wire over the pin and wick then I can remove the pin. So far this has helped me keep from winding too tightly.
Check out the
Rebuildable Atomizer Systems forum. I'm pure rookie at this, they can help more that I can. In fact, I got help there a couple of times. youtube has some videos as well that are excellent.
Also, I recommend having an inexpensive multimeter to check them with when you build them. You can get them for $10 and youtube has videos on how to use them for building coils. It is possible, especially with a non-protected PV (like an ego) to fry the battery. If it has short protection like a LT, provari, etc. it won't be a problem.
