Congrats on the 100 days, Mo!

Oh...and I, too am a metal lover. :) My ipod has a wide variety of other music on it as well (basically everything except country in my case)...but my favorite bands and majority of my music falls under the metal category. Most if it though is older.

daniele, did I tell you my son has a metal band out of Chandler? They play thrash metal. They're called Warhead. It would be cool if you could come to a show!

I would gladly take a slice of New Jersey pizza over the garbage they serve in California. Pizza is easily the #1 thing I miss about NY, though having excellent Mexican food softens the blow.

My stepson (originally from NY) lived in San Diego for several years and now lives up in Santa Cruz. He tells me that they have no idea what real Italian food tastes like! I'm always amazed that other states and cities can't just replicate how it's made here in NY. Must be in the water or something.

I had a fairly similar experience with country. My immediate family never really listened to it (we were more of an experimental late '60s garage rock household), but where I grew up, it was blaring from every drugstore cowboy-driven pick-up truck that drove by. I rejected it in favor of punk, industrial, heavy metal, and some rap, but at some point I realized that it did strike some twangy chord in me. Not that "Chatahoochee," Oak Ridge Boys, Clint Black stuff either. The only new stuff I like is Hank III, who captures some spirit of his grandaddy and alternates with metal. The funny thing is, I've noticed that some of the country old-timers manage to plumb the depths of human despair a lot better than some of the angrier or edgier music I used to listen to!

I also grew up around a lot of bad "pop" country music, so I couldn't stand anything even remotely like it for the longest time. But just recently I've been tentatively getting into some alternative/nontraditional country/whatever you wanna call it.... and to my surprise, I'm really enjoying it. (I'm kind of broadly encompassing everything from Neko Case to Woven Hand to Gillian Welch.) It's like coming full circle for me some ways. It's satisfies something in me the same way that updating and modernizing one of my Mom's old standby recipes can be satisfying, if that makes any sense.

Man, this thread is all over the place tonight!

Having lived in both New Haven and Long Island (Massapequa, huge Italian area)... I would actually take the New Haven style pizza hands down. Brick oven crust and sauce was mouth watering :p

My husband and I owned a beach house in Rhode Island for about 11 years (sold it in 2010) and we had to drive through Connecticut to get there. Anytime we wanted to stop for a quick slice of pizza on the way we could never find anything that compared to NY pizza - although we never tried New Haven. We have lots of thin crust pizza places around here but it's not my style, personally - not bad and I wouldn't pass it up, but would rather have a thicker crust.

Now onto my absolute favorite Jazz singer - Ella Fitzgerald and switched to JG Blend!

The horrid pizza was one of the biggest shocks when I moved to California in 2000. I also had no idea that bars closed at 2AM.

Maybe Wlad and Alley should make a pizza e-liquid that approximates NY pizza. Ha!

Awwww Tez, Puscifer just played at The Fox in Riverside earlier this year! Having Maynard right here in our little city made me do tiny somersaults of joy. A lot of us here must all be around the same age, good ol' industrial kids of the 90s :) I was lucky to hit every show that I could from Skinny Puppy to Tool to White Zombie to KMFDM to Thrill Kill Kult and on and on. I don't think I'll ever quite grow up and out of my favorites and I still see them when they come around. If Puscifer/Tool comes back to Riverside I'll drag you there myself. Maynard live is about as good as it gets (outside of possibly Godspeed You Black Emperor!, one of my other serious musical obsessions).

What?! I heard nothing of this! I thought we only got washed up early '90s R&B and Adult Contemporary acts here! How did I miss that?! I will say that Puscifer never grew on me the way Tool did, but I absolutely adore that Country B*ner song! Still, I'd go see 'em local in a heartbeat.

Woven Hand is awesome, don't know Gilian Welch, though. That Neko Case song you posted was beautiful -- I hadn't heard it before. Biz, you strike me as the type who might like one of my favorites from AZ, Calexico. If you haven't heard them, I'd recommend the "In the Reigns" EP they did with Iron and Wine, "Carried to Dust," or even their new one "Algiers."

I'd pay Wlad and Alley NOT to make a pizza e-liquid!

Awesome, thanks for the rec! Haven't heard them, so I'll definitely check it out. I really like Iron and Wine, so that bodes well.

Gillian Welch has a lot of bluegrass influence. I played it a lot when vacationing in the mountains recently.... perfect mood-setting music for that area.

I didn't hear about it either, just happened to drive by the Fox and saw it on the marquee. I had to do a quadruple take before it registered that Maynard would be playing less than a mile from my house (I think that was also the day I received a lovely red-light camera ticket at University and Market... Coincidence? I think not :glare:).

Cool Gilian Welch song -- thanks! Yeah, if you like Iron and Wine, definitely check out that "In the Reigns" EP -- Sam Beam's song-writing and Calexico's musicianship is a great combo.

A small taste:

Speaking on Tool, when I was younger thinking of taking guitar lessons, the music store manager told me that the bass teacher was the bassist from Tool. Back then I didn't really have a whole lot of interest in that genre of music, so honestly didn't care. But I never forget what he told me... Woulda been cool to play bass being taught by a member of Tool.. In hindsight.

Yes, I'm an evil raccoon.

Well this has been an education for me in music I've never heard of! Thanks all:)

In return, I give you the "Habanera" from Bizet's Carmen, as performed by Beaker, Animal and the Swedish Chef:

Hahaha! Classic! You know, it's sad, but most of my knowledge of Classical music probably comes from Looney Toons!

Great night of A+ food and music talk. One more for LauraGal ;) This morning it's the great Lennie Tristano.

....with some Blueberry Vanilla Cake. I'm feeling this! It really is a nice morning coffee vape. It won't be a everyday ritual or anything, but I can definitely rock this every once in a while.

Keep in mind folks, this man was blind! It's amazing how, when one of the senses is absent, other senses will become very heightened. Think of all the great blind musicians we've seen, just in American music alone... Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Rashaan Roland Kirk, Lennie Tristano. Others?

I'm so thankful to have all my senses, especially my sense of taste! (however quirky it may be ;)) Ahhhhhhhhh.... Blueberry Vanilla Cake. I would have never imagined this a month ago.

Enjoy your Sunday everyone!

Sitting here at work til 6pm...bleh..least I'm left in solitude to vape to my content lol. Anyway, stopped for a minute to listen to Lennie there. Made me reminisce back a time in life when I was a "punk only" listener...I worked in a garage owned by a son and his father, at the time he was in his 80's. The father that is. I thought their choice in music was soooo irritating and it drove me nuts. Basically just classical and some old "speakeasy" sounding racket lol. I've since come to realize this may have had a sight impact on my appreciation for the old school tunes. As I now enjoy the older tunes almost more than the more modern wonders out there today. Granted, I still like my occasional punk melody...however...one of the memories most imprinted in my mind relating to music and activity, was cruzing along the highway at a "bit more" than the posted limit while blasting some Pachelbel Canon in D....something about speed and classical music.....

To keep this crazy music discussion going, here are a couple I just thought of...

The first is a group of bluegrass/classical performers that I have been digging on...

I scored an Ahlusion fruit flavor mother lode in the classies yesterday:

AHLUSION 70/30 VG/PG

Pineapple Cream 27 ml
Van Mango 27 ml
Luna Fortuna 27 ml
A Peachy Affair 27 ml

I'm really looking forward to trying all of these!

Nice! And pre-steeped I would imagine....so that'll be a nice package to open up!

I'm very curious about Luna Fortuna...

Yep! And the beauty is, the guy is right up the road from me in Palm Springs, so it should get here quickly. I'll keep you posted -- I've been curious about that one too! I also just happen to love mango, peach, and pineapple.

Say, out of curiosity, does anyone happen to have any experience with using Ahlusion citrus (or acidic) flavors in plastic tanks? I've heard of fruit and cinnamon juices from other vendors reacting with plastic, but I was curious if anyone here had experienced this.
