I guess if you substituted donuts for smoking, you'd still be a "switcher" ... actually I doubt they asked most ex-smokers what they substituted.
Hah! I'm VERY confident that switching to vaping is FAR healthier that switching to donuts. I've seen what happened to some people who substituted food for their smoking habit and it's NOT pretty.

ALA is the worst of the worst. Where the AHA and ACS research staffs have come out and said e-cigarettes are safe in the most non-public manner possible, ALA doesn't appear to have any researchers on staff.

I stopped giving to these professional charities back in the 1970s. There are so many of these self-serving organizations, they formed a cover organization that is willing to take a lump of your paycheck and split up the donations for you. To a one, their entire object is to fund raise for their own salaries. When what they were formed to promote ends, they just reinvent themselves. Remember the 'March of Dimes' for victims of polio? I filled a couple of dime folders as a dumb kid. Their cause was cured when the first Saulk vaccine came out in the late 1950s. But they are still alive promoting preemie babies now.

@ Robert Cromwell and Foggy Road Um??? Don't read it if you don't want to. I thought that others may like to.
Not picking on your post. It is just that I expected nothing else from absolutists like the ALA.

They have gone over to the dark Side like Aniken did.

Thanks Salem for bringing his opinion to the table. I did it somewhere...... I have had a beef with the ALA for over 2 years now. They did respond to my first email but I think they put me in their spam folder when I wrote the 4th one.... I can't believe that they are not supporting vaping. The way I feel now compared to how I felt when I was smoking, I thought, would catch their attention. Nope. Gosh I was a lung hacking, gravel voiced, steroid taking, albuterol inhaling, miserable smoker. I coughed every 15 minutes. Everyday, all day, all night. Nope they didn't care. I think BP might be a supporter. Why else would they ignore these? I just wrote them again after I read seigels blog. I stay in touch with them. Tee hee

Sorry @salemgold but the ALA has been bought and paid for, for over 30 years now. THEY are a part of big pharma, and have been for a long time!

Oh, I do understand that. Still makes me very angry that they are adding fuel to the fire each time that I read about one of their ridiculous statements.

They are adding to fire to help drive the money, nothing more. That's all this is about, money.

My problem is I have given up on .gov agencies for anything. All the private alphabet agencies are bought and paid for. How many people have to die in this country before the people wake up? Get away form big AG, big Pharma go as natural as you can. Too many are seeing the handwriting on the wall shame most of the sheeple have no clue.

Many states, just to look good, gave the ALA state organizations some funds from their Tobacco Master Settlement revenues. Easy-peasy for the states, since they don't have to shell out for administrative expense: just cut a check to the local ALA and be done with it.

Now, of course, the local ALAs have become dependent on this revenue from smokers. And, of course, eliquids and vaping hardware don't contribute one red cent to the Tobacco Master Settlement.

As smoking has declined, and consequently Tobacco Master Settlement payments have followed in parallel, many of these local ALAs are hurting.

Follow the money!

In Illinois, it's not illegal to bribe local jurisdictions, such as cities and counties. Such bribes are called "grants." In the Peoples Republic of Evanston, we thought we had won the battle over whether or not to deem vaping as smoking. But then, some suits from the Illinois ALA showed up at the final Revolutionary Council meeting on the matter. The vote was all but one alderman against us. Right after the vote, one of the suits handed the mayor an envelope that was so thin it could only have held a check. Big smiles on his and the mayor's faces.

I had exchange with regional member of ALA circa 2013 where we agreed to disagree, mainly based on the idea that ALA member wasn't willing to budge, even a little, from their position that eCigs are inherently dangerous.

Prior to FDA ruling, okay, difference of opinion. I get that being part of association with "lung" (health) in the title, you'd possibly take that path.

But given FDA ruling, and the declaration of war they have on vaping, ALA has chosen their side. I hope they fall. We can always get another organization that collects money for lung health research. Hopefully one that isn't so shady and anti-science.

The ALA is not only one of the worst, they're also the nonprofit arm of Big Pharma, designed to give Americans the false impression of looking for a cure for smoking when in fact they depend on smokers as someone to bash and scapegoat. Those hypocrites stand to lose a fortune from reduced tobacco taxes and income from us no longer needing to go to them for smoking cessation.
