Been vaping for a few weeks now. For the last week or so, the corners of my mouth feel like they're cracking. I'm going through Blistex like crazy. Because I'm searching for the juices I like, I vape a mL of juice until it's gone then switch to another. Am I developing an alergic reaction to VG or PG? Dry lips in the winter is not unusual but I haven't experienced this before. Anybody heard of similar symptoms?

Welcome to ECF Jostumidd. Vaping does tend to dehydrate you, but what I am getting from your post is that your lips are not actually cracking, just feel that way. Correct me if I go that wrong.

I have not heard of this happening before. My opinion is that it could be an allergy to VG or PG or also some of the flavors in the juices you are vaping. As far as I know, PG reactions are usually felt in the throat and/or lungs, but I really don't know that much about it. Hopefully someone else that does pipes in soon.

You could try to isolate the cause by vaping only VG or PG juice and see what happens. You could also vape only VG or PG with nothing else in it for a bit if all else fails. Best of luck with it!

Yes bigsmke it only feels like it. Probably just the dry weather, no other symptoms at all unless you count better endurance and sense of smell!

I did a search for 'dry lips' in the search box at the top, right of the page. It's a very useful function on ECF. One of the results led me to this post about the known effects of switching from smoking to vaping. I skimmed through the first bit and thought there might be some good information for you there. Happy vaping :2cool:

I had the same reaction when I first started vaping and still have it to some extent. Dry lips, sometimes cracking, that I never used to have before I started vaping. Reading through the various forums, I got the idea that vaping in general tends to dehydrate. PG in particular tends to dry you out worse. I just drink a lot more water and the problem has gotten better.

I am new to this too and I had the exact same problem. My issue was the VG...I cant use more than a 30% VG mix or my lips crack and my skin dries out horrible and I itch. If I keep it at 30% or lower I have no problems.

That sounds counter intuitive as VG is used as a lubricant and should help moisturise more than anything - curious that it has that affect on you :)

I think that the likliehood is it's one of the flavours - you're probably not having a sensitivity response to the Vg or PG as much as the chemicals in the flavouring. Look at people with peanut allergy. My mother has trouble with just lemons etc...

There is also a psychological tendency to blame everything on the vaping - whereas before - considering the amount of totally nasty chemicals deposited in your mouth every time you had a normal cigarette - would this have occurred then you more than likely would have just thought it was something else and wouldn't have suspected the cigarettes in the slightest ;)

It could be. Try a lower VG juice for a few days and see if you notice an improvement. I saw an improvement in the first day.
Its worth a try.
just to clarify, my symptoms were not just dry skin. They were much worse. After day 1 I had severe cracked lips, my face around my mouth and nose was so dry it was similar to a chemical burn. By day 2 my chest, face and back was breaking out. Random hives started day 1 also and these symptoms continued to get worse.

I saw a major improvement in the first day of lower VG juice. By process of elimination I now know that I can use 60/40 with minor problems, with 70/30 I'm great. Just the normal dryness which improves with plenty of water

Very odd - I would have expected the dryness to occur with PG more than VG - but just shows one mans meat is another mans poison!

I however applaud you for not giving up and empirically discovering what you could tolerate and sticking with it - well done! :)

Thanks....I seriously needed to quit analogs so you try anything that will get you to that goal.

Damthisisfun....I hope it works for you. Let me know your outcome. Good luck!

I just realized that JC original line is not 100% PG - it is a mix and their site does not state the % of PG/VG. Will email them and see if they will tell me - or like Halo it is a "secret" mix. Anyways will say this - my buds as in taste buds are not liking PG. Same flavor - after taste is definitely not something I like. But I will continue to vape it to see if it helps my skin.....otherwise I will be seeing the DR.....
