I read it earlier in the thread so I could be wrong. Raidy suggested boiling it and using a ciggarette lighter burn the mesh. I think those bic lighters leave a residue and this coats the mesh preventing the coil from shorting on the mesh. Or it oxidizes the metal making it non conductive. not sure which.
it oxidizes the metal making it non conductive. Heat it up 3 or 4 times red hot. then put a drop of juice on it and heat it 2 or 3 more times. I don't think it is needed to heat the entire wick, just the top half.
Yes, to be clear, boil 1st, heat with a lighter, and then literally burn drops of PG juice on the end several times til it gets a dark brown color. Salt and pepper to taste and serve cooled.
I have it wrapped tight around the mesh, but it's getting red hot almost instantly between the posts and the mesh, which I didn't get as close as I wanted.
I'm going to try the 1.6mm kanthal next for more resistance. I'm just using a 1AA battery box with a 14500 in it and some jumpers for power until I get this thing figured out. That or I'll finally build a VV power supply. Next days off....
Asdaq, where the drop/s must be put ? on top into the spiral ? or on top but on the sides on the 10 or 15 mm that the mesh rises over the top cap ?

Bring it to glow, then drop the hot mesh in water.
make this 3-4 times=perfect
The kanthal should not be to tight arround the mesh, or the liquid will not flow.
If the kanthal also glow the first times drop some liquid on it or just turn the genesis upside down for a second.
the Kanthal stop glowing after 15-20 hits on your button
This process take arround 3 minutes and is very easy

Mentat, it is likely not oxidized yet. You should repeat the burning.
Persis, a drop on the top end will soak down far enough on it's own. I did a 2cm long piece and it was flaming a good 13mm of it. I don't recall exactly, but it may have been even 5 times with burning the PG.

Rady mentions a total of 40mm. 25 under the cap and 15 above the cap, and the coil 5mm above the top cap and to 5mm under the top of the mesh. Is correct ?

Just sounds like too much current then. Go with a longer strand for more resistance. It's the same current going through the entire length and each point on the wire is producing the same watts. It's just the juice from the mesh area (vaporizing off the wire) is cooling that portion. I think if you cut down the current/heat to where it doesn't get hot enough to glow it's still plenty hot enough to vaporize juice.
I only tried a small piece to use as a wick in a 510 carto tube, just to try it out. How long depends on the size of the mod really, but there should be some wick sticking out above the coil (yes I believe 5mm), but the coil can be as close to the cap as you feel comfortable with building or replacing a wick on. Down into the tank it needs to go as far as the tank is long. Mine is just a testbed so far.
I would stress that the capillary action often discussed here is aided further by the heating from the coil and you get an intense siphoning that pulls up more juice that goes out the top and down the sides of the wick. I'm thinking this is a feature to be harnessed and keeps the coil wetter too. Looks cool anyway, like a little juice fountain.

The glowing wire can for the most part be fixed just by moving it around a little, push, pull, nudge, bend, straighten, smush, unsmush,,,,, something so simple will stop it. (or to use a phrase, fiddle with it some )

Yeah, that is nice, along with several lighters too. It's at some bar in Germany, so not that unusual.

Bravo. Very nice. You have too manu holes - too meny air. I'm right? Or is it only for decoration? I supose the parts is from stainless steel?
