raidy, yes, step-down converter asks about some overvoltage. If we have not a reserve on voltage and use only one 3.6 v battery, better to use something like MAX1708 or MAX1709. We get miniature, powerful and stable power sources. Or use programmed converters as you do.
When I wrote about this converter, I meant that you use a few 3.6 v batteries in series, so a couple of volts is not a problem :)

Hooray! I made my own Genesis yesterday! There was some period of adjustments, but now I enjoy REAL VAPING :)
Raidy, you are a genius! Everything works, maintenance and troubleshooting is easy enough thanks to your information. I'm using SS 400 mesh and kanthal 0.2 mm.

Excellent.....pictures......pictures.......Hurray!!!

I am not sure, that pictures of my Genesis are appropriate in the thread... If not, I remove them.

slimest, what did you use for the body of atty
It's just a some kind of filters, made, I guess, from polycarbonate. Everything made practically on my laps, using only Dremel, files etc. Aluminium plate holding the heater made by Dremel and a file and glued to Genesis body. No lathe work at all.

These filters are disposable and used in some printers. As far as I know, approximately the same ones can be found under the hood of some old cars - gas filters.
I don't think, that anyone should follow my steps exactly, I just found something near at hand. My first Genesis looks awkward - 28 mm in diameter :) If I had not a couple of these filters, I could use a medical syringe about 20 ml for example. I believe that an aluminium flashlight body will do too.

I found out, that my Genesis does not work on usual eGo accumulators. When I push the button, it blinks for a very short time, then just keeps black. I suspected a short. Tried everything, but finally suspected, that the mesh inside the coil could work as a shorted coil.
The fact is, that eGo accumulator has a step-down converter on board, and this converter generates pulse high frequency output voltage. No capacitors on board at all. So, if the mesh has a contact inside itself (the coil is insulated), we get something like usual transformer with shorted secondary winding.
The problem resolved easy: just soldered a ceramic capacitor 0.22 mf. Now eGo accumulator works properly.
