To go over what Notcigs does to protect users and customers, Notcigs has always had protection built into all products they MFG . Here is a short list

1. Over Current protection ( this prevents the batteries from discharging to fast and causing an unsafe condition )
2. Over temp. protection ( this prevents the controller from going into an unsafe operating area )
3. Reverse battery protection ( so you cannot ruin your device by putting the batts in backwards )
4. Short circuit protection ( in case your atomizer/carto shorts out the device SHUTS itself DOWN )
5. On/Off switch , so you can disconnect the batteries from the circuit.
6. Three evenly spaced, milled vent holes

Recently the forum has decided to include all of Notcigs devices into a category that uses stacked or Series batteries , this includes devices that have NO PROTECTION whatsoever !! This is not the case with Notcigs devices, they protect users, the batteries, and product with the above controls.

Information is your best friend, and none of us wants mis-information about any product a vaper chooses to use :)

Overall, the notcigs PV-level safety feature set, in my opinion, is a textbook example of good PV safety design.

Using the buck regulator, though people can decide it is "bad" to stack batteries in all cases, means that you start off by not drawing excessive current from the batteries by design; it's 180 degrees opposed to a plain mechanical stacked battery setup. If one stacks 2 3V batteries in an unprotected mod, then puts a 1.5 ohm DCC on it, they will draw 4A, quite high current. Put a 1.5 ohm DCC on a notcigs Pro series mod, and it isn't going to draw more than 2A off the batteries.

Diverging from the high current on a plain mechanical mod, the notcigs Pro series actually limits current to a lower value than the norm for the various stock proprietary batteries (eGo family classic 650 - 750 mAh single cells), where people don't think twice about using a 1.5ohm on a 3.4 - 3.7V battery.

The thermal protection provides backup to the base regulator. Assuming the regulator breaks in a bad manner, an open circuit will occur if the batteries are drained at a 3A rate. I think of it as being like a fuse -- hit 3A and the fuse will pop, no user action required.

Assuming the electrons can jump past the failed diode, then the symmetric vents kick in. If one somehow drives the battery to an initial failure, the three vents provide balanced lateral thrust, net nothing bad though the user can expect a hot hand.

If it's anything beyond a minor off gas, the delrin endcap will pop off. I know that mechanically that acts as a soft fail point, any significant pressure will allow the cap to pop. (Accidentally had that happen on a drop.) Since it's the full end cap, the hole size exceeds the 16mm - 5/8" that's on the sticky at the top level in the ECF forum.
