“tobacco use is the leading cause of disease and death in the United States — and as our community’s health leader, it is our responsibility to aid in improving health and wellness while creating a healthy and safe environment for those who entrust us with their care.”

No, Smoking is one of the leading causes of disease and death in the United States. Unfortunately, most of society has been brainwashed to where they do not make that distinction in their thinking!

I'm seeing that a lot - a shift from SMOKING to tobacco. Personally, I think it's a concious shift brought about by the anti's....they're no longer content to just vilify smoking...they're out to bring the entire tobacco industry into serious sin taxes...no matter what product they manage to introduce to the public - be it safer or not.

They'll be happy to see smoking go by the wayside, but the tax dollars (and the contributions to these 'charitable' organizations who only have the health of Americans on their minds.......pfffffffffffft!) HAVE to continue to flow.

I just got through reading all the comments and couldn't help myself and had to comment to a few. I still go nuts over the second hand smoke thing. How do they know how many people get heart disease, or cancer for that matter, because of second hand smoke. Is there a different definitive pathology that isolates smoking from all other sources? I'd guess that second hand smoke numbers are politically estimated rather than scientifically established, but I could be wrong.

The news article also stated

After that date, patients will have to remain tobacco-free until they are discharged. If they go out to smoke it could be considered a voluntary discharge, which would be an option of last resort, Jacalyn Liebowitz, vice president for Patient Care at Allegiance Health, said in a statement.

"Last resort" means that Allegiance Health probably won't discharge any patient for using tobacco, and that this announcement was little (and probably nothing) more than anti tobacco propaganda.

This has been going on for the past two decades, and especially during the past decade as anti-tobacco extremists who work at/for health organizations and government agencies, and who publish studies and reports have knowingly and intentionally changed the correct term from "daily cigarette smoking" to "tobacco use".

I found their actual web page-

Breathe Easy: Allegiance Health, A regional hospital and health system located in Jackson, MI.

"To promote the health of our patients, their families and our visitors, Allegiance Health will no longer allow patients admitted to the hospital to smoke or use tobacco products."

Many of the comments mentioned E-cigs, but if they become regulated as a tobacco product, I guess they wouldn't be allowed along with my Swedish snus. Of course they do recommend approved BP products which just happen to also include nicotine. LOL
