Late last year, I decided to try e-cigs in an attempt to stop smoking (around a pack a day for about 10 years) Got a 901 because I thought it looked most like a cigarette, some Dekang liquid, and I was set (or so I thought). But I just couldn't really get in to it...the flavor wasn't great, I thought it was a pain in the ... to refill/top off all the time, I was always running out of charged batteries, and the vapor production just wasn't enough to satisfy me. Much to the disappointment of my wife, I continued smoking.
A few months later, I thought I'd try again. Got a few 501's and 501 megas, extra batteries and attys, some different Dekang liquids, and gave it another go. For me, the 501 was much better--vapor production was better, I had extra batteries, but it still just wasn't doing it for me. Again, much to the disappointment of my wife, the smoking continued.
I felt very defeated, and wondered if there was going to be anything that I was going to be able to do would help me stop smoking. Smoking had become a burden to me--I was spending way too money on cigarettes, as well as too much time thinking about it, doing it, and attempting to hide it from everyone around me. I'm a dentist, and my profession for the most part demonizes smokers. I was always stressed of the potential embarrassment or judgment that would likely come if colleagues or friends found out. Plus I felt like a hypocrite being a healthcare provider and participating in such a bad habit. Yet I continued.
I started to get depressed, feeling like a failure for not having the courage to kick the habit. I had quit drinking over a year ago, so I drew motivation from the fact that if I was able to do that, I should be able to quit smoking.
So I tried again--spent MANY MANY hours on ECF and finally decided upon the Riva and Ego as my new forays into PVs. I also think that one of my issues was the ....ty e-juice I had been getting, so I figured I'd try some other brands recommended by forum members here (though I didn't really hold high hopes that anything I was going to get was going to be a significant difference). I ordered a few different flavors from Backwoods Brew, as well as some Boba's Bounty from Alien Visions.
I also wanted to do something about the inconvenience of juice delivery in the carts, so I looked at a lot of the mods. I settled on the ZFM, and ordered some cart plugs from Scottyballs.
None of these purchases instilled much confidence in me--can you tell I'd become very disillusioned about the whole shebang??
But at the encouragement of my wife, I soldiered on and was going to give it one more go. When all my goodies arrived, I fiddled with the ZFM mod, dealt with some Riva battery issues (eGO not here yet), and prepared myself to be disappointed.
But boy was I wrong!! The Riva put out TONS of vapor compared to my standard 501s and 901s--win #1!! The ZFM mod greatly reduced the need to "fiddle" with the e-cig constantly--win #2!! And most surprising, the e-juices were OUT OF THIS WORLD--win #3!!
I absolutely love Boba's Bounty and ALL of the Backwoods Brew juices I've tried so far (already ordering more this weekend). They really are an astronomical improvement over the Dekang brand liquids and make vaping so damn pleasurable.
As of now I have been smoke free for 5 days, with little to no desire for an analog. Plus I now have the confidence that I can actually DO this, and that if I can make it 5 days, I can make it as long as I need to. My wife is thrilled.
I think that all the pieces fell into place with me--before I just don't believe I was ready to stop smoking. But with all of my recent growing frustrations with smoking and me seeing the return on investment of smoking not being high, the time was right for success.
I want to thank everyone at the ECF (both members and vendors) for their advice, inspiration, information, and motivation. I couldn't have done it without everyone here.
And one thing's for sure...if I can do it, anyone can!
