Not to mention that it's even quicker to just hit the "like" button to show appreciation
Some do, some don't. Just like in RL, when you wave some motorist to go in front of you, some wave thanks, some don't.
All this starts in the home.
Most young adults, with 2 working or a single parent were raised in a House, not a home.
Social standards have dropped significantly.
It is not just people that vape. It is society in general. I have to kick my kids almost anytime someone does something for them to say thank you.
............
I suspend normal courtesy rules when I'm on the internet myself; It's just not the same as the real world.
perhaps because I'm old?
That makes a certain amount of sense, Dayglow.
But really, I'm talking about the person who posts, "Help! My tank is leaking!" and then fails to acknowledge the 47 paragraphs of useful advice that follow.
Surely even a grunting, drooling caveman ought to realize that this is just plain rude?

Wow.
I'm not an expert on social media or anything, but I've never even heard of a forum that actively discourages politeness and friendly conversation.
What a totally craptastic idea!
There is something I find the "like" button useful for in a forum this size. If you read a post and have a question, but the poster has gone somewhere else or it has been a couple of days (or if you post an answer and want to make sure the person who asked the question reads it) click "like" on their last post. There is a high probability they will return to the thread to check it out.
oh that's a "liKE" button....
all this time i thought it was "liCK"......
excuse me while i go through all my "li...ke's" and correct as needed.
Good manners are taught at a young age and not learned just by using the internet...
I think it has a lot more to do with society in general. I've talked to my wife about this before and she seems to have no interest in saying please and thank you to me as a way of setting an example for our three young children. I feel as though it is very important for our kids to have manners and "make" them use them when asking me a question, but if I do the same thing when they are asking my wife a question she gets upset with me. We've went rounds over this same topic and nothing has changed.
