Do you have a link to that post? I am curious how they did it. I just soldered wires to mine then insulated them with electrical tape.

Sorry Mike I cannot find it. It was in casual conversation about fusing and such at breatru's forum.
The recommend: "use under the lipo cells or battery holder" -- its a duh' type post. lol
I had no idea how to use them since they look like a band aid...
a process of thinking I have no place to put them
they are huge and wont fit my mod..

Who knew

woot found it
who knew the search function would be that good they usually are worthless on forums another duh' lol

Battery life seems good so far, been using almost exclusively for 12 hours now and the meter shows 2/3rds. Hard getting used to the meter always slowly filling up from empty though when it awakes, is this by design so there is no phantom current coming out of the batteries or something?

Vaped about 4mls through it on a 1ohm load at 15-18 watts depending on mood, this is using parallel samsung inr18650-20r 2000mah 22a batteries. I'm pretty happy with this but not too sure what kind of runtimes to expect out of it. I am going to keep using it to see what I can get out of it with my vape style but I usually run 5ml a day.

One things for sure is that this thing hits hard, so hard that I just ordered a kick 2 to replace the 10 and 12 watt kicks I currently use because tbh I just cant go back to those after using this. Yes its that damn good :vapor:

Haha I did the same thing about a year ago....but there wasn't a kick2 then....I had to wait about six months

I would only use the kick1 in a bolt for dirt bike rides and I was so glad to get back to a DNA after a ride.

I think you will like the kick2 it vapes very much like the DNA.

Haha, I am now going to use one of my 10w kicks for my rides also and retire the ego twist once and for all since it only gets used every other weekend out in the bush, sad part is I molested my beater mod to frankenstien the dna together haha..... I did however just order up a Prism by Deus mods so maybe I'll just convert one of my current setups for beater uses lol.

Glad to hear that the kick 2 is a great vape, I've even heard that its capable of putting out more like up to 18 watts but evolv derated them on paper for some reason but I can't remember why now lol.

So what do you think of my battery life there Bap since you've done your fair share of testing and have you ever had your hands on these batts? Also is it normal for the battery level indicator to drop to zero and then raise back up after I wake it from hibernation also triggering a weak battery signal if I fire it from a sleep state? I'm sure I've read something about that but wasnt paying close attention to detail there since I was more concerned with getting it working.

Yeah I falsely stated 18 watts but I must have gotten into the wacky tobacy or something, but the kick2 does output around 16 watts.

That battery display is normal to come up with a check battery error after sleep as well as the meter "filling up"....it's just the way it is, you get used to it. You will start just checking after your vape. I don't even really notice it anymore.

By your unloaded voltage it sounds like your getting a really good discharge out of them. If your going to regularly check the voltage when the DNA cuts off, do it about the same time each time or let them set for a half hour or so. The batteries are likely to recover a little bit and checking about the same time each time will give you more consistent results.

I don't regularly check my batteries after discharge, so I can't really say. But I can usually tell if I'm getting longer or shorter vape time out of something.

Thanks for the tips Bap, its reassuring to hear that you feel all is working good and as it should. I am so happy with this vape, only thing I wish is that it was in a smaller form factor but the kick 2 in a tube should keep me plenty happy when I'm out and about. This is my stay at home mod for 18-20watt dripping when I feel like cloud chasing in the privacy of my own home.

I will only be checking the batts after this first few initial cycles, just more or less curious what kind if loaded current these are actually capable of before low voltage kicks in compared to some of the batts that have been tested. I am eagerly awaiting yours and Mamu's responses to how the new 30a lg 2500mah batts are going to work out because when I went to buy batts for this I couldn't get anything other than efest 30a ones. I already had these samsungs for my dripper mods but decided after mamu saying the efests are poor at handling loaded voltages I decided to use them for my dripping mech mods and use these samsungs for the dna. So far I am really pleased with the life of them, all I wanted was one full day and I bet I'll get 2.

With the display showing 50% while under load is it safe to say that I should get at least 50% more battery capacity before low voltage cutoff or does it deplete quicker as the battery meter goes lower and lower? Assuming this I should get another 12 hours of regular use since it shows I have used half capacity or is this the point where loaded discharge voltages start to really kick in with poor batteries?

Well I have finally drained the beast to the weak battery state. The whole time using this I have been running a 1ohm load from 15-18watts, got approx 20hrs of regular use.

Vaped maybe 10-12 mls through it and never dropped the wattage below 15w the whole time. I got to the weak battery and then did a test on the unloaded voltage of each batt. Both where sitting at 3.55v which considering I'm pushing it pretty hard while at this state is not a bad loss imo. I did bump the watts down to 10 after the weak battery came up just to see and it was firing away with no hickups again so I could have drained them more but this is not how I will be vaping this sucker.

So .45 volt loss under load it seems at 15watts 1ohm load. Would love to hear some of your guys experiances with battery life:)

Using two 18650PDs I get 2-3 days vaping at 11-13w. I usually charge at about 50% of the battery icon as I know from experience I only have an hour or two left at that point.

One thing I found curious, and Brandon at Evolv confirmed it, is that the battery icon actually "profiles" your usage and tries to judge based on your wattage. It is not a simple Voltage Indicator.

For example, I could drive the bat to "Weak Battery" at 20w with 0 left on the indicator, but if I then changed it to 10w AND TOOK A PUFF, the bat indicator might show 3/4 or even full. It tries to judge how much bat you have left based on what wattage you are using it at.

All of that being said, once I see that indicator start to drop, I start planning on charging it as it wont be long.

Thanks for the input mike, I found this to be the case too and was a bit confused when this happened as to what was really going on.

When I dropped it to 10 watts from the 15w it was set at while pushing a weak battery signal the level went up 4-5 bars and I'm sure I could have stretched it to 2 days use like this if I wanted.

In all honesty it doesnt matter to me if I get 2 days, more concerned with it delivering from 6:30 in the morning to 12 at night without a hiccup and this is easily achieved with my setup as is.

You could try switching out to this battery holder 1048 Keystone Electronics | Mouser

I would be interested to hear if it made a noticeable difference.

I started reading about these holders well after I had my build on the go and it is something that has been bugging me since seeing all the testing you did with crappy holders. I'm sure its a small contributing factor but my be worth looking into.

Do you think this would really give me that much more use though, alot of work to pry the holders out now since they are epoxied and stuck with vhb tape. I mean would I only gain an extra hour of use or what with lower resistance holders?

I would like to try them but I just want to be sure its worth the effort, I could have sworn there was a place to request a free sample on these???? I have to check into Visus post
