Always use a fuse!!!!!!!

I forgot a crucial step, and forgot all about adding the reset able fuse that I have in my drawer to my latest DNA20D mod.
This is what happened.

Sorry you had a meltdown....from the picture it seems that it may have been a battery failure (or dead short of the battery leads).....according to the burn, heat pattern on the mod cover....if that was the cause, I do not believe a fuse would have made any difference in the outcome....

The 20d has protective features such as overcurrent, over and undervoltage protection and a thermal shutdown.
