I have not been vaping all that long. In fact I just passed my five month mark. I have progressed in my vape style in a pretty common fashion. I started on a simple non adjustable battery (Kanger 1000mah) and mini kanger tank. I tried a MVP2 shortly after and got one right away. I also have a few Vision spinner 2's and got an Istick when they came out. The only battery I no longer use is the simple non adjustable Kanger battery, but I hold onto it as I have let other use to see if vaping is for them. I use mostly kanger tanks (aero and mini) but have an aspire nautilous, an itaste 30 and 30B (which I barely use any more), and a couple of aspire k1's. Well, the Holidays came around and I dove in a bit more. I got a Smok XPro BT50 and a kanger sub and I want to love it but I am not sure I do. I also got an Aspire sub ohm CF mod and a plume veil, but daughter took this over until she can afford her own so I am only talking about the kanger sub and Smok mod. What I am finding is that all the juices I have come to love, taste completely different in the kanger sub. I play with the wattage but find myself always wanting to turn it way down. I am using the stock .5 ohm heads. I have the air flow as open as it allows, but if I go much over 10 watts I feel like I want to choke and that the juice taste is almost too thick if that makes sense. The juices I am vaping are 3mg so I don't think that is it. Am I just a wussy? I like the nice puffy clouds I can make with my box mod and kanger sub but the taste is bowling me over and not in a good way. I keep finding myself grabbing my simple Spinners and regular Kanger Aero or my Eleaf/Kanger set up for the best taste for me. Am I alone in this? Is it strange to be using a sub coil with such low wattage (7.9 watts or 3.3 volts depending on how you wanna look at it) or should I just shut up and vape how it is good for me? Hahaha.

bunch of different tanks or rdas taste differently due to airflow, materials, build etc. i dont know anything about the subtank as i never had one but im guessing it doesnt come close to the plumeveil in flavor and smoothness due to being a subohm clearomizer, and the airflow and draw on it must be huge and airy. I do know about the kanger aerotank mini as i have been using that for a good year or so. You might just be used to the tighter draw of the smaller tanks you've been vaping. Did you try the plumeveil before your daughter snagged it? If you like the plumeveil any, there are definitely other good cheap RDA's out that can fit your needs if you are still used to the tighter slower draw of non subohm tanks. More airy draws combined with more distance between coil to ur mouth usually lead to less flavor.

Hey Jode!

I followed a similar path as you - simple to slightly more complex/advanced devices and EVODs to Nautiluses with a couple of kayfun clones and an RDA thrown in for good measure :)

I'm reading about these sub-ohm tanks, and they look intriguing, but I'm pretty settled in on my Protank2s with airflow controllers and my own built coils. I'm making my own juice now too. I got an iPV mini right before Christmas, and I love it, but I'm sure not pushing its capabilities. Most of the time I'm floating at about 8-10W (maybe 11 with the Nautilus)

I also don't want to spend oodles and oodles of $$$ on "shiny things" (as I've spent a decent amount thusfar in my vaping journey)

So, when push comes to shove, do you enjoy your vape as it is? If so, you're doing it right. No, I don't think we have to have the latest and greatest of anything to get what works for *us*.

I'm 10 months today. I might consider a Kanger Sub when I get to my one year mark. By then, the price will probably be even half what the lowest price I'm seeing now because the *next* new shiny thing will be out there. I pick up something here or there, mostly out of curiosity. I'd rather not drop a bunch of money on something that I might not like. But when I find something I do, I tend to get some repeats LOL.

So, grab a bottle of your favorite juice, load it up in your favorite tank, put it on your favorite device, and vape it at your favorite settings :) If somebody else thinks it's wrong, that's their problem, not yours....

For each person a simple vape means something different.

For me its an aspire atlantis on a CF SUB battery...

It has too modes for me... wide open for lots of vapor, or Nautilus mode where I set it on the smallest air hole and use a nautilus drip tip... better flavor, less vapor, more vapes between refills...

I am tired of building stuff for a good vape, tweaking voltage and watts... I am happy to grab, go, vape repeat..

Yes, go with YOUR taste. I tend to use a specific RDA with a specific resistance for testing the flavor of juice. My normal use is a kayfun or other RTA. Different tanks can vary and I have switched RTAs in the middle of a bottle of juice.

It really is all about YOUR enjoyment because everyone here will have a different opinion.

On another note, hobbyists make the most posts, but their are many, many that go with simpler systems.

Simple, lower powered vapes that have great flavor and are easy to maintain are all I need to keep from smoking. I realize that many of us here on ECF enjoy the ever changing hardware part of this as a hobby, but it isn't at all necessary for the majority of people who just want an effective tasty vape.

The pursuit of more powerful systems and the related increased consumption of liquid sure is keeping the vendors happy though. A vaper who is happy with their setup isn't a very profitable customer.

I'm a hobbyist vaper - I build coils, try different wicking materials, drip 90% of the time and if you aren't doing it my way... that's cool... :)
For new vapers I recommend the MVP20w/iStick with a nautilus BVC. I say Skip ego all together. Ego is great for some, but most seem to prefer the vape off an APV. 20w is more than enough for the "average" vaper IMO.
EDIT: and that recommended setup above can be had for about the price of an ego starter kit - shopping online of course.

I've built the .2-.3 ohm coils on a mechanical mod... Yeah, its lots of fog, but I can do something similar with a 1.6 ohm coil on my Hana 30w clone by just cranking up the wattage. Usually I build around 1.2-1.6ohm single or .6-.8 dual wicked with Japanese cotton or Readyxwick.

I've never been about getting the latest and greatest stuff. It's all about how you wanna vape. I started with Ego in Aug 2013. Then went to a 15w APV in October 2013 and started rebuilding in Jan 2014. Got a 30w mod in May, then a mech in July. December I got a Reo Grand - which has only had miner updates in the last few years. I use the Reo 90% of the time now :) I started making my own juice in October because juice was my biggest expense.

It's not about whats new or the biggest clouds for me. I prefer a cool flavorful vape most of the time. That's what I enjoy so that's how I vape. Does that mean cloud chasers are doing it wrong? or the guys who vape strait pg/vg/nic ? or the guys on an MVP and a Nautilus? or even someone who enjoys cigalikes (I know they exist...)?? Nope. They are doing it right (as long as they are doing it safely). I think if you are not smoking traditional tobacco you are doing it right. If you are still dependent on the cigarettes, its not a huge deal, but usually that means you haven't found a satisfying enough vape to replace the traditional tobacco. The marketplace is flooded with options because different people prefer different things.

Yes, I did and do use the Plumeveil. She is newer and has not educated herself on builds yet so I have to do the build for her. I am still new at this as well but have gotten pretty good at a simple dual coil build and use Japanese cotton for wicking. Yes, I love everything about my dripper except the fact that it is a dripper hahaha. I like the convenience of a tank, even a little one, over having to have my vape and juice bottle handy as well. As soon as she (or I as a present) can get another mod and dripper I will be taking that one back but she is enjoying it so much. I think what you say about the fact that I have become accustom to the tight draw makes a lot of sense to me. Thanks

    Always have.
I found my "sweet spot" a long time ago, long before sub ohm and the like even existed. Sense finding what I like my quest has been to find the most efficient way to get it rather than trying to find something better.
I found that by wrapping my own coils & DIY my own liquids I could afford nice equipment that will last a lifetime instead of settling for disposable PVs & toppers that only last a year or so before ending up in the trash.
The PV I've been using this AM (Mako) is 4 years old, and the topper (A7) on it is over 2 years old, and they still produce the vape that I want & enjoy.

AND ... I haven't spent one red cent on vaping in 10 months (last March)

Sounds like its time for a Reo (reosmods.com) :) Not cheap but well worth the money IMO It seems like the cheap BFs are just that, CHEAP. I have no experience with anything but a Reo, but I do my research... and I did A LOT of it before dropping the money on a Reo. You can find them here on the classifieds some times, but good condition will only save you $20 and beat up may save you $50 or 60. They are simple mech mods, so you need to build safely and observe proper battery care.
I got one in December (as I said) and have not put the thing down... well except to sleep and type messages on ECF :) Gotta get some BF drippers though...

Thank you all so much for your input. I now know I am not alone or weird. Well, the later is up for debate but not weird about the way I vape fits. :p I guess I just get caught up in hearing all these people go on and on about how much better the juice tastes when used in this that or the other new thing that I want to find that same Ahhhhhhhhh. Yes, I am happy with my simple Kangers and do love my Plume Veil when I can drip without fear that a grandchild will get a hold of it. I wanted to ask because I was at a store when a fellow vaper asked me what I was vaping at. I handed him my box mod/Kanger sub and thought he would never stop laughing. He promptly tried to educate me that with the .5 ohm head I could easily go up to 25 30 watts for the best taste. Well it makes me choke and tastes nasty to me I said. He just shook his head and told me I didn't know what I was doing. This was not a friend but just a person I know that shares vaping so I made no changes how I do things, just wanted to see how weird I was. Thanks to you all I know I am OK. :toast:

LOL sorry, its rare that I do short posts :)

My daughter once told me that I am not a person that can even think about using twitter. I just cannot control myself with words. I love them all so much I just have to use as many as I can. Chuckle chuckle. I am not a short poster either. I just love to see it when people can. That "No" answered my question and made me laugh.

See now, you just made me feel better about my builds too. I guess I just fit best with the odd bird crowd. No offense to anybody that replied.

None taken with my .6-.8 & 1.2-1.6ohm coils :p (not that thats super low or anything compared to some cloud chasing, but its defiantly no 2.2 :) )
