Am I crazy? or is it my build?

So I got my copper vein mini in and have been going nuts with it. But, here's my question....Does the grand hit harder than the mini? I want to buy another one in the SL but can't decide on mini or grand. Overall, I'd probably say the mini but my grand hits HARD which I love. Is it something in my build that would feel that way? I have new-ish batteries but maybe I killed them by not charging soon enough. Trying to figure out if it truly does hit harder, or if it's something I unknowingly did to mess up the vape. It wouldn't be a big shock if it's something I did lol. But, the builds are roughly the same, both airholes drilled out the same, coils lined up with airhole the same etc. Any help would be appreciated since I'm trying to use the info in my decision to buy.

The grand and the mini are essentially battery holders. Given the same atty, and same batteries, they should hit the same.

Some things to consider:

Do they both have the upgraded contacts?
Is the resistance of the attys you're using the same? (you said "roughly the same", how close are they?)
Are the batteries for both coming off the charger at the same voltage?
If you swap the attys, does the problem follow the atty, or stay with the mini?
Have you cleaned the contacts on the mini? (Even if it has the upgraded contacts, you might try a q-tip and alcohol, both the switch and the spring.)

If the answer isn't in the above, I'm stumped and maybe one of the "knowlegable ones" will come along and help.

I experience the same thing... When you sit and think about it, the only difference is size, which pretty much means... different batteries.

What batteries are you using?

I have AW-IMR's in the mini and VTC5's in the Grand. The difference in power is veeeeery noticeable.

PS... The title states "Am I crazy? or is it the build?"... I don't think it's either, but it could be both. ;)

both are almost brand new devices. I bought the grand a month ago maybe and the mini got here a week and a half ago both ordered from robs site so both have the new contacts. I'm using AW red batteries in both and new batteries. Both new batteries were purchased at the same time. I don't have my coil checker with me to see if there are any slight differences in build so will try to do that tomorrow. Both batteries were charged with nitecore and taken off at the same time. I do have backup batteries and have tried them. It's not a HUGE difference but enough that I find myself reaching for the grand over the mini. But, I think I kinda prefer the mini in my hand. So, it's a toss up. :)

Well if you're using 18650 1600 mah A dubs then I would bet the 18490s don't have the power of the 18650. The 1600s deliver 24 amps I don't know the power of the 18490 but I'm sure it's less than that. Someone will soon chime in on that part.

ETA Found it it's like 16.5 amps.

I don't think they make 18500 actually or at least I can't find one on rtd.

Think about it this way... A bigger battery means bigger power. You're using a mechanical mod, which means all the power depends on the battery and the quality of the power it's delivering. Hence why the new contacts (which are better than the older ones) help deliver more power.

I read where you said coil position was about the same. Are you checking coil height to the deck. A small amount can make a difference. I build the exact same coil in everything but there are times with I need to play a bit with coil height position to get the same vape. Try raising the coil height in the mini.

A fully charged battery on a mini obviously dies a lot faster too, given the same coil on top.

Much depends on your vaping habits; HRH uses minis all day, but she's at home and changes batteries easily and probably only uses 3ml of liquid a day, so it's perfect.

I am a greedy cloud-hound and more often than not at work, and use well over 6ml a day - so only a grand will do.

My suspicion is that you CAN get the same vape on a mini - but not for long.

There's a good point as well. I always make sure my coil is even, if not a tad higher than the airhole on the atty cap.

I do know that the coil height has A LOT to do with flavor. I also like to leave the bottom of the coil free of all cotton. Makes the vape come out from top and bottom of coil. More vape. Nicer hit. TONS of flavor.

Silly, but I don't think anyone mentioned it .......Did you check tightness of the post screws on the Mini?

My Grand and Mini hit the same Given the 18490 dose not last as long as an 18650 When my batteries come off the charger they both have the same voltage and I'm well with in the amp limit of the 18490(16.5 amp) so I can't see that being an issue either I actually like the mini better

This has een my experience as well.

Multimeter will solve the mystery. Measure battery fully charged measure the batteries internal voltage drop by putting the leads at the top and bottom of the battery while you fire a coil. The difference in these is power lost inside the battery. My guess is this might be greater on the 18490 batts
