The Mini copper vein I recently got used is mostly a dark, even black patina with just "some" copper color still showing on the top. Looks great with the brass RM2/button, no damage anywhere so I'm OK with it. Now I have a new LP Grand silver vein coming. Just saw a picture of one used... all black patina except for traces of silver on the top same as my mini.

Is that just the way it is with the vein finishes?

Has anyone done something to their vein Reo when new to keep the original finish closer to intact? Something like carnauba wax, some kind of clear coat or ???

Thanks.

I have both. The copper vein will darken considerably with use if it isn't sealed, or in my case sealed well. The silver vein is almost black as it comes, the silver only shows in bright light, particularly sunlight, and hasn't changed a bit in the months that I've owned it. It's one of my favorite finishes.

Thanks kindly for the comments and link folks.

I know I can't change the copper vein mini, and I'm fine with that. I love it so much it doesn't matter. But I'll probably clear coat the LP Grand silver vein when it gets here just for good measure. Same with what will probably be Reo #3 for me, a LP or LP/SL Grand copper vein. The copper vein Reo's has the most curb appeal to me of all the Reo finishes/colors, the silver vein a close second.

I recommend vtc engine enamel in clear gloss. It's meant for high heat so it'll stay on when hot. Totally worth it, don't ask how I know. Let it cure for as long as indicated, then 10 minutes at 200 degrees in the oven, pull from heat and allow to cool. Then carnauba wax for more shine, if desired.

This is a mystery to me. I've had copper-vein Mini for 3 or 4 weeks and I don't notice any change yet. The copper is not metal, but paint. Is it normal for paint to darken when it's touched?
Just my theory, there is actual copper particles in the paint and these will react to air and hand oils and patina over time. Because they are small particles you cannot clean them and get back to copper. The change is subtle overtime if compared to brand new you might see that it has darkened a bit.

Same experience. My first Reo was a silver-vein door, and brand new it looks black when looking at it straight on. The Silver only comes out when the light hits it/you look at it on angles, or when you're outdoors it's really neat. Kind of like owning two Reos 'cause it changes it's appearance. 10 months old now.

However, it could be that it darkened slightly, and so slowly I didn't notice, but it's still definitely a shiny like silver contrast against the black wrinkle body. (with light at the right angle/outdoors)

My first backup was a copper-vein, within two months it was completely dark.

My next Reo is going to be an SL silver-vein, so I'll be able to see the difference first hand (if there even is one) in a few weeks when I'm back in town to order it. (10 month old silver paint vs brand new silver paint)

Cheers

I'd be a bit wary about baking a Reo, because there are things in the 510 that are best left alone and you risk damaging the gaskets and innards even if you remove the juice bottle etc.

Ya, best if it's totally stripped, otherwise I'd give it a full week to cute before using.
