Some time ago i had gotten my greedy little mittens on a raptor tank. Aside from it holding 6ml's of juice and a little surprise i found, that is where the good/ bad impressions end. I mean it is just the big brother to the star dust.

From the first day of owning it, i needed to fight with it to try and get some vapor, and with it being a LR device i found it alarming i needed to pump up my volts to 6 just to get some form of a decent vape.

I had emptied and refilled it about three times with three different juice combinations and still got nothing but poor performance. So i cleaned it a fourth time and was going to throw it away when a little voice told me to keep it. So i did.

Fast forward a week later. I got a bright spark idea that i should be able to add either a vivi nova coil head or star dust coil head to the base to get some what of a nice vape. That is when i found my little surprise.

There on the base i had noticed a nice blob of silver resin (solder) that had some how seemed to be on the post where you attach the coil heads. Now i am no spring chicken and i know what solder (resin) looks like, and sure as anything it is in there.

Now this is where i am wondering if i am really noodles, or should i be a little alarmed that if someone was to pick this very item up and start vaping not knowing a thing (lets say a new vapor), they are getting lead, silver and more important that solder remnants into their lungs which if i am not mistaken is a huge no no? I mean the only reason why i have this device still is for the simple fact that when i look at it, i start to shake my head in dismay at the difference in Quality Assurance between USA and China...

Not sure the short burst that we take would be hot enough to really heat the solder, but I've never tested it. Probably still better for you then smoking the coffin nails.

This is where i am at odds with myself as well. I mean Nicotine enters the lungs going into the blood system, thus circulation through the body the same as fumes from resin/silver/coper. The only difference is one is a heavy metal that if i am not mistaken can effect your kidney's and other area's triggering onset of cancer (quicker?)

The 13 year old child who worked 12 hours that day must of missed that one same as the children's toys that had lead based paint on them not so log ago.
If you think you are getting quality from China you are sadly mistaken. I give the Chinese props and admiration for coming up with the ecig I do not like their policy as manufactures. Lie cheat and steel to get their money.

If it IS solder, you've probably cooked off any of the chemicals by now.. a note about soldering: the process of soldering involves a chemical called Flux, it helps the solder flow the way you want it to, so there could have been residual flux on that glob of solder you're seeing... idk, I don't think you're gonna die or get sick, but it should definitely be taken note of & looked for in the future.

Some metals can cause cancer if ingested over long periods of time, whether inhaling or ingesting. If it were me, I would go with a different tank, just to be on the safe side.

chinese quality and chinese quality control are two different things... sounds like a mistake, obviously. I would just get another one, double check it, and roll. I've had a carto that had no center hole before and an atomizer from a starter kit that the bridge mesh was actually sticking straight up out of the hole. Some stuff slips through in mass production like that.

so... what do you use? US made genesis devices or what? what choice do we have when it comes to clearomizer tanks?

Buy as little as possible from China educate your self join others who try to force our legislatures to stop selling out our country to corporations who manufacture over seas
Agreed at this time its almost impossible but if we start doing something it doesn't have to always be so.

Solder is a major no-no for me when it comes to atomizer and tank systems. It is NOT necessary to have solder in any of those connections if designed properly.

Not all solder is lead-free.. and anything soldered in China would be suspect to me. Lead/tin solder is cheap compared with silver, so I wouldn't be surprised if there was some lead in there.

I would be extremely wary of a device like this. Thanks for the heads up.

Well, I'm not going to get into the corporations selling us out debate. I try to buy USA most of the time. But with e-cigs...IDK how to avoid it for most stuff. ALL the electronics are from overseas anyway.

As to the solder...all atomizers and cartos have some solder. There was a thread a while back that had some of em tested for lead. Paint too. No lead. They are SUPPOSED to be using lead-free solder to join things. Again, QC or lack thereof, is always a concern. But I wouldn't freak.

There's no way I know of to avoid solder in atomizers/cartos. Someone else know? Maybe some tanks that use bolts/nuts to clamp the coil wire. IDK. My VN just clamps the wire. As to how the joints are sealed....IDK.

I'd have to guess some clearomizers have no soldier? but they do have glue. My vivi novas smelled of superglue or industrial glue out of the package. The G4 clearomizers are almost all plastic arent they? Those might be soldier free. Not leak free, lol, but soldier free maybe.

Starsusts and Kanger T2 and T3 clearomizers have no solder in them - the coil tails simply press against the pos and neg by a silicon cone/insulator. The Stardusts are not glued (they are press fit), but the Kangers base and top sleeve are.

Quality Control isnt perfect by any means, American made or china made. Domestic cars never have recalls do they? What american is going to build these things all day for minimum wage? If they did we would be paying $20 for a carto with the wage rates in the states.

The solder thing sucks it really does but the coil shouldn't get hot enough to emit any danger but if it was a short and blew a battery or device out I would be really ticked off. My very first vivinova 1.8ohm coil measured at 3.9ohms. I'm just glad I ordered vivis for rebuilding or I would of been displeased with them. 2 out of 5 smoktech cartos came doa on every order back in the day for me so I stopped getting smoktech cartos. It is what it is. Does it have to be? probably not but it is.
