Hi kinabaloo,

Your findings pushed me to investigate more this issue of attys getting covered with vapour residues, and dissected a burned atty to get clear view with microscope etc.

Next, I had some attys that were covered pretty heavily by residues, and could not produce much vapour as the new ones can, so I gave it a shot and tried to clean it using the USB-passthrough...

Well, the results were beyond my expentations!!! Here is a small video that I took and describes the procedure and shows the cleaned coil under microscope in the various stages of cleaning it:

Will look the video in a moment.

This is a preventative cleaning measure for attys from new; though it might work with an atty already gunked up, it might be killed off too (as the deposit insulates the coil too much leading to overheating and thermal expansion stress).

That's just a note to general reader. I know you were doing experimental investigation :)

edit: the video is wrong one.

Its a standard youtube link:

youtube dot com /watch?v=ylLMi3TWAvM

You could open any existing youtube video and replace the "/watch..." part on the URL... Otherwise, visit my youtube channel under the name: tronicgr

The video is called: Cleaning atomizer on a Mirage (M402) e-cigarette

The Atty I have used was completely gunked up is a manner that I could not distinguish the coil even under the microscope!!! After cleaning it (with the USB-passthrough) not only the coil was completely clean, but I could also see the coil holder starting to have back its white color!!! In the video there are photos of the various cleaning stages, that shows the difference before and after...!! And its not that it looks clean, it produces as much vapor as it did if were a new one!!

Of course there is always a possibility to kill an atty this way, but if its starting to give less performance and burned taste, its already useless!!! :p

Hi Thanos, I'm getting the correct video now :)

Here it is:

YouTube - Cleaning atomizer on a Mirage (M402) e-cigarette

You have confirmed what I found :)

With automatic 901s, blowing doesn't work. If do this by sucking (dry coil), do not inhale. With a manual battery/passthrough you don't need to puff. Use a shorter period if using a passthrough - they supply more power. Stop after a few seconds of red glow.
