They are good, honest people for the most part -- except the dunkards, they can be real crooks and hence reason for banishment. You sure can't beat their craftsmanship when it comes to woodworking.
I hope they can find a way to vape without it interfering with their beliefs or lifestyle. Solar certainly seems to me a viable option. I've always wondered about the Amish dairymen. They'd just about have to be on the grid or use generators for their cooling tanks and possibly milking machines. Otherwise, by the time the milk route truck arrived, the product would be sour. I think it boils down to the old "when there is a will, there is a way" concept.

Yes, they could. When we were ordering our Amish furniture, on some of the tables in the store, there were cool little wooden puzzle boxes, not much bigger than a box mod. The guy that owned the furniture store said that the Amish will make anything, if they can make money off of it. They sometimes use woods that aren't usually used in woodworking too, such as Locust, Hickory, Sycamore and Sassafrass.

Locust gives new meaning to the term "hardwood"....lol. I used to call it coal that grew out of the ground when I heated with wood. The black locust especially was great wood to heat with if you could split it (also nice for fence posts too with it's natural ability to resist rotting) . It was some tough wood to work with. But, some of the grain patterns in it were beautiful. I can just imagine a mod built out of it. Same for the Sassafrass. Beautiful grain pattern.
I'd love to see how they work the locust. I'll bet it takes some serious sanding to get it nice and smooth, but would be worth the effort.

Some of the hardest working people you will ever run across. And so talented with their hands. Used to enjoy watching the carpenters figure roof angles and stair tread and risers using good old math. Nothing fancy, just pencil and paper. Truly a "throwback" in our hi-tech world.
Never considered no online ordering..... maybe they could partner with someone on the outside who could relay the orders to them. But you are right, TG.... probably not much longer of a wait than some of the other vendors....lol

I go to alot of Horse Expos. There are usually a few Amish builders selling their custom made horse sheds. Most will hand out a DVD to prospective customers. Some do have a web site for their business. It just is not in their own home. Their is a man in PA making and selling Treeless Saddles. He does most of his business through the Inernet. So it is very possible to eventually get the Amish to make wooden box mods. Alot of the Amish in PA still grow tobacco. Just imagine. Amish made PV, and Amish made juice. Someone should tell them they could make money. Sometimes I think alot of the Amish are "splitting hairs" so to say when it comes to what they allow. I do appreciate them for their work though.

I think usually most Amish goods are sold through non-Amish vendors and made to order. The vendor does all of the advertising and website work. Other than that I think the only way they sell their stuff is through their own local stores.
Our matress is even Amish made and it's the best matress I've ever had. It was pretty cool going to the store and looking at the display catalogs, then choosing the style we wanted and the stain. Get a call five weeks later and it's done.
It's like owning antiques that are new, if that makes any sense.

When I was a youth in the USA going to college I worked at a chair shop and we had 6 Amish men there, they smoked, drank booze and did snuff.
They are human also and can get addicted to normal things like us.. All because they dress like they live in 1632 doesnt mean they have problems.

I would LOVE to see a box mod made from Quartersawn Sycamore- I attached a pic of some QS Sycamore paneling from my office. There's a lot of fleck in there and it gets a nice honey color with a clear sealer on it. It's a little rough to work with, though.

I don't really have any plans or dimensions but I would be pretty interested in having one of our local craftsmen give a box mod a try. Anyone have any idea where to get plans for one?

You could use one of these plans and just substitute a wooden box for the plastic one.

I can picture him, rolling down the road in his black buggy, honkin' on an e-cig. What will happen, if the other Amish find out that he has it? All of our bedroom furniture was made by the Amish, really nice stuff. It was the only American made furniture we could find.

It would be really cool if the Amish started making E cigs! They would be the best quality anyway.
