Hey guys, want to know if it's just me. I'm transitioning from deep sub ohm massive coil free based nic vaping to a lower profile set up with salt nics. I like the form factor of pods, but purchasing pods irritates me. So in an effort to create that pod style effect I got my self a Vandy Vape Ex and an Ammit. I mostly have 28 nichrome or 30 ss316 for coils.

Seems like no matter what I'm just not really getting good flavor out of it. I've tried spaced and tight coils of varying diameters. Rayon and cotton wicks. I noticed that the coil and wick become pretty toasted and black brown quickly. By way of comparison I tried the same juice in a Smok Mico (which promptly died on me two days later and I'm in the process of RMA it and getting something else).

The difference in the two experiences was night and day. The flavors coming off the Mico on the same juice were unparalleled. So am I doing something wrong with my Ammit? I'm limited in build options because of the power range on the EX. Need to stay above .8 ohm.

I do have a geek vape frenzy coming..but I'd like to get this Ammit going the right way.

The Vandy Vape EX wont fire anything under .8ohms?!?
I read that and thought “surely he’s jesting” then looked it up and no ....e, that sucks. Glad I never bought that squonker, I’m not an ultra low vaper but I like a .5 or maybe even a .2 just think that’s really odd to only go down to 0.8. I know this was no help but it’s an old thread and I just wanted to hear myself talk, thank you, goodbye

Never paid that any mind @madstabber, but good catch.

The 0.8 ohm limit is probably due to using an 800mAh internal battery, with no further specifications provided on said internal battery.
That makes sense, the battery may have a problem pushing anything lower than 0.8 ohm and still have decent battery life.

@Mrez I don't suppose you ever got that Ammit figured out, did you? I have tried a variety of configurations & always get this off-harshness from my juice. I figured out that it works best with a small contact coil directly in front of the air flow holes. I usually use 28ga kanthal, 2.5mm ID, 5 or 6 wraps. Usually nets me around 1.1ohms. But if the coil is too wide (more wraps or thicker gauge) it burns the cotton pretty quickly & the taste is definitely worse.

I have a Vapefly Galaxies MTL RDA on the way, so hopefully that gives a better experience...

No sadly I never did. I set it aside and went back to using the topper that came with mod. It still isn't great. I have some 28 gauge kanthal, maybe I'll switch it out to try tonight. I've been using a geekvape frenzy and the flavor is definitely better. But I only get 3-4 days per coil, using both types. I've got my eye on the jester rebuildable as well as I just fundementally hate buying coils. I have been wondering if wicking has something to do with it. With rebuilt coils we usually put the cotton inside the coil, where as pod coils use exterior wicking. But I was never good at doing a wrap around wick.

Kanthal won't heat fast enough I wouldn't think.. you might try ni80 wire..

A superfine ni80 mtl fused Clapton wire (30*2 / 40) would work well and give nice flavor..

more difficult to find the wire, but I just bought some off eBay, and got some .6 ohm ni80 mtl fused Clapton coils direct from AsModus as well..

Usually if you buy the pre made (such as I did from AsModus) the leads are sufficiently long enough to throw an extra wrap on, which might get you to your .8..

I just think ni80 fc wire might work better for you, over all, in that device..

Hmmm...I have a Ammit and a Ares, both very nice but the Ammit is a bit fussy with wicking at the juice channel, too tight is easy due to the small holes. When I use a 2.5 x 6 wrap 28ga. SS316 coil and the resulting thinner wick all is good. The Ares channels are a bit wider...not as fussy. I also noticed that on the Ammit coil space is not kind when using sweet juice....with 3+mm coils it can bridge across causing burnt sugar chunks.

well i do own a frenzy too, coils lasts at least 2 weeks for me after heavy abuse, or 3 weeks on regular use, mostly rotation with my ammit RTA mtl on a slender setup,

i went in that direction too, 1st tried ammit rta mtl with a asmodus colossal, coilology mtl wire and tc, sweet, the ony con, wick lifespan, gone darker to soon, then moved to power mode on an aegis mini mod, the same thing, tried spaced coils and flavor and wick lifespan gone better, so might try mtl wire specific and try your best the coil style, for example tight or spaced, so is the same with the amount of wraps given, i did started with 6-7 wraps, now im on 5 turns spaced, better flavor, 1.05 ohm resistence, amazing for salts!, almost like a pod but backed up with a 18650 cell on the mod!

2-3 weeks on frenzy coils!! How the hell are you doing that? I'm getting 3-4 days tops out of the mesh and nichrome coils. The cotton paper they use to wrap the coil is ..... I pull the wire from the atty head when it starts to taste bad, and the paper is usually blackened and the wire funked up. Plus the USB port isn't that great and it's finicky on getting charged.

I broke down and ordered a squad mod from squid industries with the rba deck atty. I think why I can never get good flavor from the ammit (but I can on other pod mods) is the chamber is just to big and let's the vapor expand a bit to much. So I'm hoping the small slender size of the RBA on the squad mod resolves that issue...and also I can stop buying ....ty coils. Seems like 28 gauge kanthal works well because it doesn't get to hot. I'm running 6 wraps now on the ammit and it's better. I'm going to try a micro fused coil on the squad mod rba after I run a kanthal single wrap first.
