In the summer of 2012 I met a vaper from the Buffalo, NY area in Watkins Glen, NY. I was a hardcore smoker (I am getting ready to turn 42 and I started smoking when I was 11) who thought vaping was for people that really didn't "NEED" to smoke and was therefore silly vain and just for show. I had thought for years people that smoked but didn't inhale were idiots and needed to grow up and realize just how stupid what they were doing was. Well this man was friendly and polite when I asked if he was smoking a blue. He showed me that he had a CE4 tank on the end of it and explained he had a "mod" but the batteries were dead. That is when I decided to be rude and confront him on just how silly he was being and when I unknowingly made an ... of myself.

I closed my ears when he told me he was a smoker and that because of vaping he was able to quit. I ridiculed him when he tried to show me that he was just using the blue battery as a backup and he had better equipment. I was completely ignorant of the details of vaping and I just closed my ears and refused to listen.

I abruptly ended the conversation and walked out saying I was going to have a real cigarette and that if he was satisfied with that he should just quit and stop being stupid.

It was an uncharacteristic show of ignorance on my part. I was uneducated. I was desperate to quit but thought e-cigs were just for stupid people who were just being ridiculous.

I don't know why I felt the need to try to shame this man. I don't know what was broken in me to treat a complete stranger that way. I just hope that I didn't discourage him from his path to becoming a nonsmoker. I hope that he is still vaping. I hope he didn't think that was who I am. I am truly sorry for how I treated him and I wish I could go back in time and change what I did.

Needless to say I have taken the time to open my mind and educate myself and I am trying to learn more even now and I find that there is so much more to it than just a vanity thing.

Wow I was so stupid!!

Whoever you are I am sorry!!

... uneducated!!!

Whoever you are I am sorry!!

Chances are that he is happily vaping and would still help you if he met you again! Most vapers are like that. Now, your turn...

Just wanted to say I've had people close their ears to me as well. I chalked it up to them not being ready to listen..... for whatever reason.

I enjoy sharing knowledge & will share everything I've learned in the 6 months I've been vaping.

Sometimes I have to make myself shut up when I'm talking *at* someone who just doesn't get it.
