This infomercial magazine was distributed in print with “The Times” newspaper (thanks for this info to Kate on Vapers Network). Not that I’m a great fan of advertisements. It’s great to see, however, that the UK has a functioning trading organization. An organization, that can bind together interests of various suppliers and allow for such a combined outreach to the general public. Besides, the referenced magazine also includes some editorials that are worth the read.

Well, I finally got around to reading that, and it was an unexpectedly good read.

I really liked the "Standing up for lighting up" article...
There was another reason why smokers were drawn to each other. Quite simply the nature and quality of conversation among smokers is always markedly better than among non-smokers. The act of smoking allows for moments of silence. When you’re inhaling, exhaling or emptying or refilling a pipe, you have permission to stare into space or to lose yourself in introspection without looking rude. Hence smokers at parties need not struggle to keep the conversation going with banal pleasantries.

Yeah, this was one of the things I liked best about smoking...
Because I find it hard to tolerate banal pleasantries.
:)

From Bach to Beethoven, from Björn & Benny to Brian Wilson, it is hard to identify a composer or songwriter of any worth who was a non-smoker. Among the ranks of great writers and poets, nonsmokers are few – even John Milton lit up. Perhaps tobacco makes possible those sustained bouts of abstract thought which are essential to science and the arts.

I suspect somewhere in the world there is now, in a smokeless, sterile meeting room, a genius who knows how to solve the economic crisis. But he (or she) isn’t solving it. He is busy listening to the incessant drivel of non-smokers, while wishing he could just sneak out for a quick smoke.

And again two more of the most important things about smoking for me...

I always used cigarettes as an excuse to take a break, and even as an excuse to get away from certain situations.
And as for problem solving, I could stare at a problem for an hour while getting nowhere, yet after 5 minutes of smoking I would have the answer.

The UK trade association, ECITA, is the best-organised in the world. For example ECITA has a chemist on the staff and a GC-MS machine for testing e-liquid.

There are differences of opinion between the UK trade association ECITA, and the consumers association ECCA UK, but on the whole things are amicable. The advantage of trade and consumer groups singing from the same hymn sheet is considerable.

There is a desperate need for a unified US trade association now that the FDA have made their attack plans clear: first ban any e-cigarette adverts as they will be tobacco advertising (after the deeming regulation is in place, very soon).

What is the US trade going to do about that? Leave it to someone else probably, as usual.

Welcome to ECITA - The Electronic Cigarette Industry Trade Association
ECCA UK - E-Cigarette Consumer Association of the UK
