I agree with you wildrose about getting the word out. I actually spoke to my son's health class at his high school after the teacher invited me.

That's GREAT that you got such a great reception to vaping. I think it's going to take a lot of those small, but meaningful presentations to get the strong grassroots foundation that we need.

Mayyyybe not *in* the school next time, but presented to the teachers somewhere...etc etc.

So yes, until the Authorities-That-Be wise up... keeping e-cigs away from kids is the best course of action. Eventually those minors will reach majority and can make a decision with the government's help.

Please, please please, tread softly here…

I understand it’s better to have a high school kid vaping over smoking, I was a smoker at 13 myself. But you know how the anti-smoking zealots are, already trying to ban it for no reason.

The last thing we can afford to do is allow them to twist e-cigarette + high school into trying to promote candy flavored addictive products to kids. If that hits the headlines we are dead, although not a bit of truth to it, we are dead just the same, go buy a pack of cigarettes you’ll need them.

We even risk parents not knowing their teen smokes cigarettes, only to catch them with an e-cigarette, never mind they were actually trying to quit… When the poop hits the fan everything is going to fly, I’d bet even the accusation that because e-cigarettes are cheaper, they appeal to kids..

I recently had a customer place an order for themselves to be delivered to a school. That person was the secretary at that school, so they most likely would get the mail. No ill intent on their part. I refused to send it there, just not worth the risk to any of us to have it perceived the wrong way. Can’t risk the headline “Vendor sends e-cigarettes to school”

I think you misread my posts. Everything I said stated I believe that e-cigs should be kept AWAY from and NOT marketed to minors. ;)

If I may.....

I am a college instuctor, and a few student's of mine that I had last year were outside in the smoking pit were talking about quitting. One of them even told me he had tried numerous times, even the nicorette inhalers, (to which he told me his father in law told him to quit sucking on tam@ons). He expressed serious interest in ecigs, even said he thought about getting them.

I wonder if the info was more readily available and some of the social stigma was removed if ecigs would stand a chance.

After reading here for the past week for countless hours, I think that if there was a way to drop some info inconspicuously around the smoking areas, I would be more than happy to. I truly feel that this may be a way for some deeply habitual smokers to kick the habit like I personally feel like i finally have the chance to. I will still go out to the smokers area and puff my ecig and happily answer questions about it to any who ask, I feel it is the least I can do as a person who is in a position to be a role model to all these fine gentlemen who I have the chance to meet every year in my line of work.

College students I have no problem with, and encourage... providing they are of age. The problem we are facing is some people will use any ammunition they can against e-cigs in favour of a ban.

~~ You can vape cool candy flavours. Must be marketed at children. BAN THEM.
~~They are cheaper than cigarettes. Must be marketed at children. BAN THEM.
~~Online sellers cannot ensure that they do not sell to minors. BAN THEM.

You know how it goes...

I see you are new here (welcome, btw!), so you may not know, but ECF provides free business cards for those who want to spread the word. You just have to pay the S/H. ECF Generic Business Cards (FREE) [ecfgenericbizcard] - It's Free! : ECF Store!, E-Cigarette-Forum.com Swag store! On the card is some general info about e-cigs and the pertinent forum links.

Order some of those and hand them out. That's probably one of the best ways I know of.

Believe it or not, most of them are older than me. Kinda makes me feel weird sometimes, but that's trades I guess.

I was thinking of some well placed printouts of this website's logo and URL to get the info out there. Stealthily placed......... (If the mods and admin are okay with that)

Not sure how that would play out with me in the position that I am currently in?

Might be some do-gooder busybodies saying I'm promoting improper things.....

I would love a link to the card's you mentioned, if you could. I was also thinking of some well placed printouts of this website's logo and URL. (If the mods and admin are okay with that)

Link was in my previous post, but here it is again: ECF Generic Business Cards (FREE) [ecfgenericbizcard] - It's Free! : ECF Store!, E-Cigarette-Forum.com Swag store!

I'm sure the mods and admins would be fine with that. Anything that gets the word out... But maybe Greg could chime in here?

I wouldn't say you'd be promoting, per se... as the cards just give a bit of info on e-cigs and the links to this forum so people can do research themselves. They're not for a particular business.

At any rate, what I meant was that you could hand them to the students who approach you. Saves you from getting into a lengthy discussion between class times. ;)

That makes sense.

(Scenario)

Out for a smoke break....."Hey, what is that thing?"

"An e-cig"

"whats that"

"here, check out the website on this biz-card"

Is that what you were thinking of blondie?

Exactly. You can tell them what you can (and in what time you have), but if you have to run back to class or whatever you can say, "I've gotta run, but here... check out the forum. There's tons of info on e-cigs, models, vendors, etc."

I also carry alcohol swabs around with me so I can let friends and acquaintances try it out if they want.

I don't foresee any issue with ECF at all for what your proposing..... but then again, I'm no longer a global moderator (retired - too stressful for me, lol), and only an honorary moderator here on the Canadian Members forum for, I think, my part in initiating this forum way back when.

If you have any concerns, you could always direct them to the Forum Manager for clarification. I'm just not privy anymore to forum admin discussions (hidden area to me now), so I usually have to bother Angus when I need anything beyond my allowable forum permissions.

Here's a great poster you could use if someone creative modified the top header area: http://www.casaa.org/files/CASAA Medical infograph(4).pdf

This is from the CSSA area of the forum and was intended for Doctors but would work great for this idea of yours too. Didn't see any copywrite symbols and they'd probably support this anyway.
