Analogs really DO taste terrible.

Well, I decided to take one puff from an analog for a few reasons. For one, I've read on quite a few forums how people were saying that they hated smoking analogs compared to vaping. I also took a puff because; quite frankly, analogs kind of scare me (I'll explain).

When people kept saying that they hated cigarettes compared to e-cigs, it sparked my morbid curiosity (damn majoring in psychology!). I honesty chalked it up to what I call the "ex-boyfriend/girlfriend effect." This occurs when two people break up and then the next person that they date is sooooooo much better than who they were previously dating in their minds, even if it's not really true. It's also similar to "sour grapes" where the individual cannot have something, so they force themselves to believe that the thing wasn't good to begin with. Now being scared of analogs just means that I avoided them like the plague because I thought that if I ever had one in hand, I'd smoke the whole thing and love it. Then I'd eventually go back to smoking.

So I took a drag of an analog. I can honestly say that I was wrong about what everyone was saying. It's not the ex-boyfriend/girlfriend effect and it's not sour grapes; these things really do taste horrible. The smoke was so thick and pungent and the taste was quite frankly overwhelming. I coughed and I coughed really hard. I also felt pretty sick for a good half hour. I'm actually REALLY glad that I took that puff from an analog. For one, I proved that I was wrong, which is a very good thing. It also showed me that cigarettes are nothing special and I don't have to be afraid that I'll ever go back to them.

It really makes me wonder why I ever started smoking in the first place.

Yep, I can relate. When I first started vaping I gave in to the urge to light a cigarette once a day for 6 out of the first 7 days. The first 6 of those times I REALLY hated the taste and butted them out after only two or three puffs. For me it wasn't about smoking a cigarette but rather reconfirming I didn't want to smoke any longer. When I lit that last cigarette I smoked the enitre thing even though it tasted absolutely horrible. I knew it was the last cigarette I would EVER light and smoke for the rest of my life and I wanted to be sure I'd remember for a good long time exactly how horrible it did taste not to mention how horrible I smelled after standing in my own cigarette smoke that last time !

While I too can't stand real cigarettes anymore, if that's all there was to get my nicotine I think I could work through the nastiness and learn to love them again in less than a day.

I'm going to have to agree with you. Even though I hated the taste of the analog, I'm sure that I could learn to love them again. They would even start tasting better as my senses became dull again. I guess for me, the biggest difference is that I loved the taste of vaping immediately while it took me quite awhile to start loving the taste of analogs.

I'm just really glad that I know now that I'm not missing out on anything special. I honestly don't view e-cigs as being second best to analogs. I won't suggest to anyone to try this out, especially if you're really on the fence about switching to e-cigs. I did it for me, out of curiosity.

After vaping with a LR atty on a 901/905 for several months now, the other day I decided to take a drag off an analogue. My thoughts were: wow, this vapor production sucks and it tastes terrible.

They really do.. once you're off them, they just make you want to puke. My room mate smokes in the house too, so I'm used to the smell.. but frankly, it's still disgusting to me.

i've been vaping about a year and a half now and agree that analogs taste completely horrible but what i find even worse is second hand smoke. My wife will be in the other room and the smell will wake me out of a dead sleep. I refuse to preach to her and other analog smokers because i did the same thing to others for so many years. I never really cared until the shoe was on the other foot and i was the one choking. Analogs are sick and make me sick but you didn't hear that from me.

Exactly! I particularly like the quote from you, "For me it wasn't about smoking a cigarette but rather reconfirming I didn't want to smoke it any longer." I had the choice to either finish that cigarette after my experimental puff or grab my e-cig and start vaping. I chose vaping because it tastes better to me than smoke.

I spent the first month or more terrified of cigarettes. Convinced that if I ever smoked one again I'd be back to smoking within the week (just like every other time), and if e-cigs can't keep me from that then I know there's truly no hope for me.

So I spent those months patting myself on the back and telling myself what a good job I was doing every day and telling myself how proud of me that I am...

Until I smoked a cigarette (ok, a pack) last summer when I had a battery crisis while on a camping trip. It was like smoking from satan's ...., only more gross -- and the weird part was that they were exactly like I remembered them at the same time! Wow, did I really like that?

Then I felt pretty dumb for patting myself on the back so much for "resisting" this "temptation" that in reality was just horrid.

I just stepped out onto my deck for an analog. After 3 days of vaping it was pretty awful and the smell was really gross. It's definitely true when people say after vaping analogs taste awful. I can't imagine having an analog after a few months of vaping...

Oh yeah, its also really cold outside. Im enjoying being able to vape inside at my desk. Where it's warm. And I can read ECF... lol

It really makes me wonder why I ever started smoking in the first place.

I know why. I was 15, moved, and my friends did it. Also, it was a really cheap buzz, about $1.50/pack from the laundry mat vending machine. I can honestly recall some serious quality difference between smokes from Virginia, BC, and Washington, where Washington were among the most foul.

There may be a good reason why they seem more foul than before. They tend to recycle old smokes into new smokes, about ~25% recycled materials, ~25% recon. I imagine there are bits of decade old smoke in that recycle.

They really are quite off putting.... And so are some of my exes, for that matter. I think smoking cigarettes is very similar to spinning your wheels in a dead end or toxic relationship. Sometimes, even if a situation is unhealthy or serves no good purpose, it's all too easy to grow dependent or complacent. And then you stumble upon vaping...and who imagined it would be as awesome and life changing as it is? Kind of like meeting the person you "know" you're going to marry. You don't always understand how dissatisfying something is until you have something exceedingly better to compare it with.

Honestly to me, it took me a few days to really drop the analogs completely. I really had to adjust to the vaping experience and the difference in the inhale etc.. But after I really adjusted, and made the effort, I am hooked. If for no other reason, in my case, to simply avoid the literal headaches I was getting with analogs. I am a sufferer of sinus/head allergies. And analogs really cause me major sinus headaches. I end up popping otc allergies meds a couple times a day. But I was just so addicted to them I would keep on doing it as you all know to well I am sure. It was that first morning when I woke up and took my first hit off my ecig and got my nicotine satisfaction with no headache that I was convinced this was for me!! Even now, just the smell of the analogs, is getting to the point that I am sensitive to it and starting to have sneezing reactions. LOL I guess I will not be immune to it forever.... It really sounds silly to me.. I have been completely analog free for almost 4days now and had the ecig for about a week. I smoked 3 ciggs this whole week and I am already seeing a difference. I am really anxious to see the changes to come!
