Joined today to make one post: I found this forum researching tobacco alkaloids and just discovered WTA. Doing this search because I own stock in Star Scientific which makes CigRx and Anatabloc. (Would also like to quit smoking and try vaping). I always knew it wasn't just nicotine I liked.
Star investors believe that missing element is anatabine, one of the minor tobacco alkaloids.
I take Anatabloc and like what it has done for me in relieving joint pain and so I bought the stock.

There are several human studies due for publishing that could show that anatabine IS a very good anti-inflammatory with almost no side effects.
This of course is a threat to big pharma and the billions they make from Enbrel, Humira.

So here is a story that may not have been told on this forum. Several years ago when Star was in the tobacco business they played around with curing tobacco in microwave ovens so that no nitrosamines formed. They were successful and patented the process. They then created some snus with BDL (below detectable levels) of nitrosamines. Then came CigRx, and eventually Anatabloc due to their research into the minor alkaloids showing special properties. They licensed the curing process to a small cigarette mfg. (I forget who right now). That company was then purchased by Reynolds. Reynolds didn't pay the license fees. Star sued, Reynolds counter sued, stock holders drooled. The upshot was Reynolds dropped their suit, Star got a paltry $5M and both parties were subject to a gag order. Stock holders were basically left with a BIG ......?

Star's latest 10Q states their lawyers in this action billed $1.8 million but they decided to instead take a percentage of future royalties. WHAT?
10Q then states that no agreements are currently signed. Stock holders are speculating that Reynolds and Star had agreed to partner up and put liquid anatabine in the Vuse e-cig.

Interesting :)
I recently picked up some cigrx because of the anatabine. I quit smoking and after 7 months had a horrible flare up of Crohn's disease :( but smoking 3-4 cigarettes a day keeps it at bay. From what I've read I'm thinking anatabine is why smoking helps IBD. I'm still a little afraid to drop those few cigs. I'm hoping this is the answer :)
Thanks for the info

Same thing with Hashimoto's Antibodies (90% of hypothyroid cases). Great article here:

An Immune System and Thyroid Upside for Tobacco? Anatabine / Anatabloc Dietary Supplement | National Academy of Hypothyroidism

Anatabine was shown to suppress thyroglobin antibodies, which is why often quitting smoking triggers active Hashimoto's attacks. Happened to me, within 2 months of quitting completely, and like Loxsmythe I went back to smoking 3-5 cigarettes a day because it actually DID make me feel better.

I am now being treated with natural thyroid (still in the titration phase), and am snusing occasionally. I would like to try Anatabloc but my Dr is suggesting I wait and it's pretty expensive (esp compared to snus). It also has parabens in it, which makes me a bit leery of using it long term. But my nephew is a manager at a GNC and I think I will try some eventually.

I have sometimes thought anatabine was either a huge deal or the biggest placebo snowjob ever. BUT, I took it for tendonitis that would not go away and it worked. Then I realized I wasn't getting up in the middle of the night to hit the head anymore. This was starting to happen more often as I am now 51. My latest checkup the Dr. said my prostate was "below normal in size for my age". Also anecdotal but my niece quit smoking and started to have IBS. Try this link to a blogger who has Crohn's and is now under control with A-Bloc.

$99 retail for 300 tabs. With GNC gold card you can take off 20%. Just bought this week since they had a buy one-get one 1/2 off (or BOGO 1/2) as they call it made each about $62 including tax. Perhaps you'll get a family discount on top of that?

My GNC sells it for $80.00, but 300 tabs is only about a months worth. I already spend $80+ a month on other supplements, and since I just started my treatment, lab testing is quite expensive, even with insurance covering about half.

Not to say that I'm not excited to try it, but the affordability factor for me is an issue...unfortunately the best discount I can get is the employee discount which is 20%. Once I get to a relatively affordable phase in my treatment (and if my antibodies are still high) I will likely try it. :)

This is a round-about explanation but hang with me.

As an investor in Star I can tell you that the plan appears to be this:
1) They have applied for just the "use patent" since it is a naturally occurring substance.
2) They are patenting the process of synthesizing of anatabine they now use since extraction naturally is too expensive.
3) Anatabine is a stereo isomer meaning it is a chemical that has two separate sides linked by one bond. They believe one side of it is the active part doing all these great things. If they synthesize this half ,that is NOT natural and therefore patentable just like a drug.
With that and more published studies, Drs. can prescribe, insurance covers.
