Disclaimer: vaping inhaled medications is not recommended.

:)

As some of y'all may know I didn't quit smoking early enough to avoid COPD and adult onset asthma. The Reddit user I mentioned above was a nonsmoker with asthma and asked about vaping his inhaled asthma medication (Albuterol, salbutamol to those outside the Colonies).

I did some research, learned Albuterol wasn't flammable but couldn't find any information in its MSDS to learn whether it broke down into more toxic components and at what temperature that might happen but decided to give it a shot anyway.

I took the contents of a 1.25mg/ml tube of Albuterol nebulizer solution, added flavoring and 100mg VG nic base to equal 6ml of 25mg/ml finished mix and put the concoction into a clean Stardust v2 clearo.

It worked.

A breathing treatment takes me about ten minutes. After chain-vaping the mix for about the same amount of time I got about the same effect as I would from the aforementioned breathing treatment.

Because the mix is mostly water with ~25% VG vapor production is minimal and if I were to do this again I'd use a fair bit more flavoring than you would with a VG or PG/VG mix but it did open up my lungs.

I had some concerns about the solution being too weak to have any effect but that wasn't the case; I figure that unlike a breathing treatment all of the medicine got into my lungs.

As I mentioned in the disclaimer above I can't recommend anyone else try this and will understand if mods decide to remove the post, but I really hate taking breathing treatments and this mix has replaced my morning vape.

cheers -

Bad idea. Really. Take it from a retired Respiratory Therapist, you don't want to do this with any medication. Aside from dilution, you never know how one molecule is going to affect another. Most of us aren't chemist and don't know how one set of alkaloids will affect a solution of acids or neutral compounds. Also, a PV doesn't come close to the droplet size of an ultrasonic nebulizer. Respiratory meds are made for deep lung penetration. Also, Nicotine has a restrictive effect on the alveoli in your lungs where the medication is trying to open them. Your lungs are going nuts trying to figure out what you want, open-closed, open-closed. If your going to do it anyway at least do it with 0 Nicotine.
