I just saw this on Yahoo:
Energy drinks are still killing kids in America

"As early as 2005, a toxicologist tracked 4,500 caffeine-related calls to poison control, half of them for people under the age of 19. By 2011, poison control centers were reporting fatalities from kids..."

So caffeine and energy drinks are actually killing kids but vaping which has killed no one* is demonized, and taxed into oblivion.

*There actually was one eliquid related death, but it was a man that injected eliquid directly into his veins. He did NOT vape it.

I will also point out that you can buy bulk caffeine powder at GNC and online for less than $10.

People are stupid with that stuff. Caffeine should be treated how it is. A nearly-harmless (unless you're pregnant or have a heart condition) but highly addictive substance that's diluted to the point that it's not toxic.

Nicotine can be looked at the same way. They use it as a pesticide, but we are too large for the doses we use to seriously injure us under normal circumstances.

Energy drinks probably aren't good for you, but I'm sure the problem lies with the lack of awareness of what caffeine can do to your body, even if healthy.

Back in the early 90s guarana pills were a party craze for teens here that wanted to larp as technoheads. They popped those and got drunk. Thing is, caffeine alters how your body can metabolize alcohol in a bad way, so there were quite a few cases of alcohol poisoning because of that.

Yeah, that's the reason why they took the energy portion of four-locos out. it's dangerous.

I have no doubt that energy drinks are bad for you, but I don't think it's the caffeine, it's all the other stuff in them. While I imagine this could be okay if one drank, say, an energy drink a week (I don't) when you overdo stuff like that, I'm not shocked to hear about fatalities. But, teens can make almost anything dangerous and I don't think they should be counted as "legitimate" energy drinkers OR vapers. They have no sense, many of them, of what the world "limit" means.

The tide pod thing.... There are times I wish the internet were a more responsible place. I equally hated that "cold water bucket overhead" challenge, just donate the money, don't do something ridiculous. My sis, of course, participated. We are only 3 years apart in age, I can't believe how differently I approach social media than her. To me, FB is a burden, and my account is long inactive. Twitter.... While brevity may be the SOUL of wit, such does not seem to be the case with Twitter. Oddly, I have total disinterest in telling people tiny snippets of my life, 24-7 365. Life is hard enough.

I also prize anonymity sometimes. Sometimes in real life, but most definitely on the internet... Even though I know the government CAN track me 24-7, well, I don't have to make it AS EASY as possible for them.

I do remember the cinnamon challenge. My son tried it. I told him he was a dumb creature. LOL.

Do you remember the good old days when we took pictures of every meal, developed them and then took them round to friends houses to show them?
That's right, that never happened.

Oh yeah, long before the internet and tweeting. It was called "Polaroiding". Kids took selfies of them doing dumb things, took them to school, and tacked them up on bulletin boards. Of course Tide pods didn't exist back then so kids just ate Tide powder rolled in dryer sheets. Not.
