I asked this in my other "tracking" thread, but wanted to start another thread on the subject for a reason that will soon be apparent.

I'm educated as a software developer, although it is not the field I ultimately went into, and I'm always looking for projects to develop on - on either a PC, Microsoft or Android mobile device, sorry no iPhone stuff from me - to keep my skills up-to-date since I don't have a day-to-day reason to use them.

So, the question being presented - keeping in mind that this would just be a hobby project - free app - and is only at the idea stage, I'm making no promises to anyone about anything :p - what would you like to see in such an application?

After giving it only about 5 minutes of thought, I'm thinking this would be a simple 'consumer' application allowing the user to search by name, ingredient?, and/or vendor and view/upload reviews and notes of the juices they've tried.
- thinking a global database of juices and vendors would be nice, but that would have to be managed ...not sure I'm up to that.

Basic information is a given - juice name, vendor, overall rating, notes, pg/vg, nic level, etc.

The ability to add DIY recipes to a local database (not to the global database)
- global database of juice ingredients and vendors? ...but again, that would have to be managed.
- DIY supply inventory?

Feel free to throw your ideas out. What would be useful for you? As I said, I'm considering doing this, but I have no problem if someone else steals the idea and makes a commercial product from it. I really just thought this would be an interesting topic.

That's a great idea, but I'm an iPhone user  ;)

Combining these two quotes is the reason I really believe in making responsive web applications.

Phone Apps are great, but if you want to unite users across all platforms (without building 2+ versions of your app, and more when the next "big thing hits"), you should just make the website itself mobile friendly. Every smart phone now a days has more than one great option for mobile browsing, all that run javascript beautifully and render everything to look crisp and clean.

The only downside to this is that you need an internet connection readily available; but in this situation, are you going to be reviewing flavors when you don't have internet? Most likely you'll be at home with your huge collection of juices, drippers and favorite mod ;)

This was the approach I took on my little hobby project JuiceDB, though it still has a few kinks that need worked out.
