Anyone out there into rooting/flashing custom rom/kernels on android phones/tablets?

I am currently running jds nexus s kang of CM9 on my fascinate and team DRHs brand new AOSP build of ICS with the. 39 kernel. So far it is nice and smooth but both still ha e some small issues that need worked out. After going ICS I don't think I could ever go back to a gingerbread rom.

I do miss wifi tethering on My fassy though. I can't wait until that issue is fixed.

Anyone else?

Yeah I used to run cm7 on my evo before I upgraded to a epic 4g touch. Now I use a cm7 kang on it waiting for official cm7/9 for it. Aosp is much better then the crap stock firmware IMO

Agree. I am downloading an aosp ics build for my fascinate now.

The fascinate has such an awesome Dec community. We already have 4 ice cream sandwich roms and glitch kernel is coning out soon for ics :)

I haven't checked for a while but my next step will be trying to find a nice, lite, stable ICS build for my 'old' Desire. It's a shame they dropped support for the Desire so soon, even the iPhone 3GS runs iOS5 smoothly.

Sadly a lot of android devices get support dropped before it is their time :(

My charge was a feature phone when it came out and its not getting ics ....hell it barely got gingerbread.

I love modding things. It started back when my wife was out of town about 8 or 9 years ago and I made my xbox (which I still use to this day) to have XBMC on it. Then came the WII well yeah that was modded to. Now I am into android and linux on my laptop. Hello ecigs and getting ready to build my evercool as soon as my parts get here from china. lol I love it

I have a buddy into this stuff. It's all Greek to me. I have the Tmobile G2 Android. It works fine. I see little benefit to changing the way it works. Tell me what the advantages are to the rooting?

Free tethering, increased battery life, over clocking or under clocking ,no ciq freedom to do what ever you want to do with your phone

I didn't buy my first phone until Android hit the scene... I never needed/wanted a mobile phone, I waited until it was a viable mobile computing device :)

Just over 2 years ago I bought a Samsung Moment and rooted it about 5 days later... about a year and a half later I upgraded to a 4G Evo and then a couple months later to my current SGS2 (I love this phone!)

I'm running the 2.9.2v of this build [ ROM ] Calkulin's E4GT v3.0 [ EL29 l Fast l Tweaked l Battery Saver Script ] - xda-developers I need to upgrade to the new 3.0 once I'm sure it's solid.
