Hi Everyone,

First I want everyone to know that I am not a smoker (tried it when I was a teen, but did not like it) Why am I here you ask? Well my DH is a smoker since he was a teen and I wanted to get him an e-cig as a Christmas gift, hence the StNick username but little did I know before a began this task at how difficult it would be. I was shocked to find out it is so difficult to buy these in Canada especially after reading so many posts of people who have quite smoking and are also lowering their nicotine intake. Now that I am able to post in the Canadian forum I hope someone here can help me with information on Canadian Suppliers

Thanks

Oh Canada
StNick, I'm a newbie also. Like you very surprised to see how things are here in Canada regarding e-cigs. There are quite a few Canadian vendors so dont worry. Here is the link your looking for.

Canada Suppliers

Not advertising because I'm wayyy to new to really know anything but I just bought my 1st real e-cig from
Best Vapour, Canada

Feedback from the folks on here about the VOLT is really positive and that helped me make my decision. Plus this place sells e-juice with nic in it. I found a lot of the vendors were selling the kits but the e-juice didn't have any niccotine. I only wanted to place 1 order, and I wanted a Canadian site to avoid customs) and this site seemed like the best choice for me. Hey shop around though and ask lots of questions and you will get a lot of help from the guys with real experience.

I had to Google DH... lol. Dearest Husband? Really? That's an acronym now? Haha, ok no worries...

Well StNick there are many options available. If you want a small and discrete PV that looks like a cig, then yes, the Volt is an excellent choice. However, the battery life leaves a lot to be desired. He might get annoyed charging it all the time. It is essentially a KR808 model with a few much appreciated tweaks.

There's also a 510 ecig, which again is smaller and more discrete. It has a different threading than a KR808 (the threads to screw on the atomizer, which heats up the juice). 510 threading is much more common than KR808, so there are many more atomizer options.

Next we get to the medium size ecigs (something like the size of a sharpie marker). Most popular one is the Ego. It is 510 threaded, so it will accept all atomizers than the 510 will fit. These batteries will last all day for a medium vaper. Charge up at night and you're good for the next day.

The big boys on the block are called "mods," and there are too many to list and not really entry level stuff anyways. Keep in mind there are many more options than I'm listing. Even wooden pipes!

Sooooo... what are you looking for StNick? Has your hubby expressed interest in vaping, or is this one of those "here's a weight scale for Xmas" type gifts? :D

Hi. By giving him an E-cig you will get to keep him around longer. There is also a difference between batteries. Some are automatic - you just use like a regular smoke, when you inhale it activates the battery. Then there is the manual battery. It is the preferred battery for most users. It has a button you press to inhale. It is also sealed so if you overfill something or juice leaks you will not damage the battery. Auto has an opening at the end so you have to be a bit careful. Just more to digest before you make up your mind. Welcome aboard and hope he gets good use out of his present

Ego... ego... ego... Every vaper at the meet tonight was pretty much using an ego, that wasn't using a mod. We've all tried everything if you are looking for something reasonably priced that won't leave you wanting more for some time. Grab an ego kit.

hi mopar..btw what kind of ego are you talking about im just curious :) thanks..

Thanks for the info Concat, my Dearest Husband (DH) did express an interest in e-cigs but this would have been atleat 5 years ago and from what I remember e-cigs at that time where not as sofisticated as they are now and I remember him saying that the vapour did not have any heat to it that would make it more realistic. If he did look into e-cigs resently and saw all the hassle Canadians have to go through he would not have bothered he would of thought that it was too much of a hassle, I am a bit more stubburn than he is and thus it would make a great Christmas gift. All I am looking for is something to get him started I was thinking the Halo G6 would be a good start it seems to be simple to use, I am not too worried that the battery only lasts a few hours from what I have read people have a few e-cigs in their collections. Any furthur suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

Before making a suggestion I think it would be best to know his habits.

How much does he smoke/ day?
Knowing what brand will help in suggesting a nicotine level that will help stave the cravings.
Is he a tinkerer or is simple what he wants?

Welcome to the ECF and best of luck in your endeavor.

Lastly, look for local meets or vapers near you. Seeing it in person, holding it and getting guidance will help in succeeding.

Hi StNick and welcome to the forums! It's wonderful that you're taking the time to check out the world of vaping for your husband's health and benefit ~ kudos to you!

I agree with 4mehealth above though, because vaping is so subjective, it would be much easier to recommend a device if we knew a little more about your husband's smoking habit.

Thanks $mehealth and Cactusgirl, here are the answers to your questions, any help is greatly appreciated.

Before making a suggestion I think it would be best to know his habits.

How much does he smoke/ day? He smokes about 1/2 to 3/4's of a pack every day

Knowing what brand will help in suggesting a nicotine level that will help stave the cravings. Peter Jackson Full flavour regular size

Is he a tinkerer or is simple what he wants? He uses smoking as a calming routine, he has a very stressfull job and smoking helps him. I think for his introduction to vaping something simple would be best to get him started if he gets frustrated at the begining with something he needs to tinker with he won't pursue it.

StNick, since your husband mentioned the temperature of the vapor, I should bring up the resistance of an atomizer. Generally speaking, there are 3 different types. Low res, standard res, and high res. High resistance atomizers are only really used on high voltage mods, so we can forget about them. What you want, should you get a 510 threaded device, is a low resistance atomizer or two. They heat up more and thus produce not only warm vapor, but more of it.

I'm not sure about the Volt. Someone else should chime in and comment about the warmth of the vapor. As far as I know, it is warmer than a standard 510 atomizer, but cooler than a Low Res atomizer.

hi mopar..btw what kind of ego are you talking about im just curious :) thanks..

I only have ever bought the joyetech ego's. 1000mAh usb pass through was my weapon of choice for sometime, with a type b LR atty(plumes of vape) and getting to play with all the various toys I still find depending on the juice it's hard to beat. It certainly provides a quitting smoker with the power to get away from analogs. Lasts a whole day, can usb it anywhere and isn't that big?(compared to some other devices) The only reason I just couldn't stay happy with it for ever, is some juices need higher Voltage I find to bring the taste out as well as I couldn't find a carto that came anywhere close to dripping and I really got sick of dripping. Enter(Reo) now saying that I find some juices are a lot nicer on a JOYETECH regulated ego 3.2V. The other ego's are 3.7V for the most part and not regulated. Hence why if you want VV with an EGO the booster is recommended on the joyetech bats. Just keep in mind I only use LR atty's 510's and type B. So if you were using a SR atty everything I just typed wouldn't apply. When we were talking about starting vaping last night most of the PV's under an ego are a gateway to vaping, get you off analogs or get's you into vaping and you end up with an ego. I started with a 401 kit that cost me $60 at a convenience store. Ordered an ego kit a couple days after researching cause the 401 was a great concept but a 1and1/2hr battery life, the carts etc just weren't practical I found. After I got an eGo my analog smoking habit was on borrowed time, went from heavy smoking, to a few a day, then to none.
