one thing that turned my mom off my Ego was the manual battery .. she thought it was silly to have to press a button ... and now that i have a auto volt i never use my tank ... i'm goona buy an adapter to use carts on my ego batt as the tank system in my opinion is no good ..

It's funny how people can ignore some things. I mean, when you break down, it's pretty damn silly to light a leaf on fire and inhale the poisonous smoke. A lot of people I introduce vaping to have similar hangups. Like... "You mean I have to charge the batteries?" but going to the store every few days is fine and dandy.

I used to smoke the same cigs as your husband. I'd agree with all the people who said buy the EGO. It's my preferred e-cig setup these days for ease of use and the least amount of mess.

I use LR atomizers and 24mg liquid with mine, but maybe start your husband off on 18mg and some cheaper normal atomizers as someone else suggested and up the dose later if he likes the idea of using the e-cig but complains it isn't quite doing it for him.

Don't be too depressed if he doesn't keep using his e-cig. I've had several co-workers in the past go back to normal cigarettes after I got them using an e-cig for a while. Despite what some say here on these forums, e-cigs dont seem to be for everyone, which is a shame because as far as everyone else is concerned, you look and smell and feel like a non smoker once you start using an e-cig full time :(

Oh, and I buy all my stuff from evapers.com just so I only have to order from one place, but there's lots of good Canadian sites these days.

Based on what you've stated, here's what I think (and it's just my opinion).

In wanting it to be cig like, I would recommend the Volt or the Bloog (the actual maker is Kanger, model KR808-D1). These will hit at 3.7v (producing a relatively warmer vapor). The caveat in these is that the battery life does not last long (2 hours vaping max I think, don't have numbers to back myself up here). With a short battery life, DH may become frustrated at constantly having to change batteries. Then again, since you said he'll be using it at home, he may be ok with this set up (If you go this route, I'd recommend some extra batteries, perhaps 3 in total that he can keep in rotation).

I am following everybody's advice here and recommending an eGo. I'd suggest purchasing low resistance cartomizers to use (my recommendation is to go with 2.0 ohm, no lower). This will make the ego a 2 piece unit and is really simple to use. The eGo is thicker than a cigarette. More in line with a Sharpie.

I would suggest dripping at a later stage. That requires some fiddling and if DH isn't up to the task, I can imagine it to become frustrating relatively easy. I say forget about cartridges. They're more a pain than they're worth. Cartomizers are the atomizer and cart combined. Relatively inexpensive and works well. I personally didn't like tanks, so I can't say much about them.

I am getting a bit confused, I am looking for a simple 2 pc unit that is easy to use and is the size of a regular cigarette.

what is the difference between Dripping , Cartridges and Tanks? are they all the same thing?

All the two piece units the size of a regular cigarette tend to, well... be crappy and too small to deliver enough nicotine. I couldn't quit smoking with one, nor can most people.

Dripping is where you put a few drops of liquid into your atomizer and get a few puffs off of your e-cig. Then you have to refill... sort of like a real cig for me.

Cartridges are the little plastic bits on the end of your e-cig that contain an absorbent material attached to the atomizer and are supposed to feed it liquid so you dont have to refill it very often. Depending on the make and model they annoy us and make us rip them off and start dripping instead.

A tank is sort of a hybrid, its a little tank of liquid that attaches to your atomizer and feeds it liquid directly. Too much work/mess for me, but many people swear by them.

You will get a lot of this technobabble when asking what e-cigs to buy. They're a very immature product, so there's a lot of different things out there at the moment all trying to do the same thing (get nicotine and vapor into our lungs) with varying degrees of success.

I don't know if you are close to GTA? because Jack from happy vaper is at doctor flea's. He can show you the differences between the different stuff, help you decide etc, it might be a couple dollars more depending where you order from but you could end up saving a lot down the road and even right away if you end up ordering a kit that won't suit his needs from recommendations here. Right now you are kind of throwing a dart at a board and without seeing the differences in realtime touching holding and feeling. You could end up buying something that won't be a strong enough crutch to support such a radical change as giving up analogs. Everything mentioned here has pro's and cons and different people view them differently and some people are giving you recommendations that haven't even tried everything (which is great) but maybe they only smoked 5-10 ultra light cigarettes a day, some people don't smoke till after breakfast others have 3 cigarettes before they get out of bed etc.... All of this stuff matters when trying to find a PV. Or you can come out to a meet when we all have our gear and check everything out there too.

StNick, it sounds to me like the Volt should be your number 1 choice. It's a two piece design. What that means is that the atomizer and cartridge are one (called a "cartomizer"), and the battery is the other. It's also a very popular unit and well respected for the genre.

Once he's comfortable with vaping, he can move on to the bigger boys on the block which require a bit more knowledge and tinkering. Most people do move on because they are searching for the "perfect vape."

For the Volt in Canada, you can get it here: Best Vapour, Canada

He will have to fill up his own cartos with juice, but you CAN buy prefilled ones from the States. However, customs have been told by Health Canada not to allow nicotine juice into Canada. Many Canadians do it anyway and it gets through just fine. get him a variety of flavors. You'll be surprised at what he likes best. The tobacco flavours NEVER taste like a cigarette. People tend to have great expectations and end up disappointed. Then they try a mint one, or a fruit one and they love it.

One more thing... most Canadian vendors only allow payment by Interac Money Transfer. This is because nicotine juice is not authorized for sale (Health Canada). Credit Card companies and PayPal will therefore not facilitate payments for these goods. Rest assured that it does NOT mean the company is shady or anything like that.

The owner/rep for Best Vapour is a fairly active member here and is a nice guy. Can't remember his name, but someone might be able to give you his profile link and you can talk to him directly.

If your husband doesn't like his first experience, tell him to come here. There are so many options out there that it would be wrong for him to judge vaping based on one device/juice. Most of us have had to try multiple different devices and juices before finding what works.

Thanks for the offer Mopar but I want this to be a surprise, it would not be much of one if he knew what he was getting for Christmas. It's very rare that I have an opportunity to surprise him. I know that what I end up getting him will hopefully be only the first e-cig he will have. Hopefully he will pursue vaping furthur but after Christmas.

what you get also is based on how much he smoked. a heavy smoker needs to puff more basically. a couple 320 mah batteries would last me about 4-5 hrs. having spare batteries and whatever he will use on them (cartos, attys, tanks etc etc) helps. an ego is more like having a small cigar than a cigarette but I find I don't want anything that looks like a cig. I vape openly wherever I go and nobody ever thinks I am smoking.

at this point I have alot to consider, as for an early christmas present ....maybe but he has been smoking for more than 25yrs I don't think a few more months will make much of a difference at this point.

Not to push ya St, but how 'bout an early xmas present? The sooner you get DH off cigs the better no?

Just sayin'.

stnick..

well thats my problem before..i got confused also :)...theres alot of types/brands in e-cig world...i think the most basic your looking for is like using the same old analog type (cigarette type)..at first my idea is just to puff just like smoking and old analog...so try to browse smokeless image VOLT or BLOOG..those are almost same type..like a analog...im not endorsing any brands here but as ive researched those two basic brands, in my opinion..i picked VOLT...before i got my 1st -ecig here..i really got obsessed in finding out which is the best for newbie like me....:)

in my experience...if ever i got bored in my VOLT..maybe ill switch to other...because having those kind of tanks..dripping..atomizers got me confused before...so i tried the basic..well its up to you if you want to explore more...

im not that veteran so this is my opinion as a newbie...:) you can sum up all our opinions here and make your own decision

good luck

Well put Vertigo. I agree with what your saying. Plus I actually got my own Volt today and it blew me away. I was puffing on it withing 1 minute of opening the package. It's perfect for me. All the reviews I read were accurate.
