Hello all,

I've been combing through tons of information as most who are in this forum. From what I've gathered the ego or 510 seem to be a good starting point, but I've seen the 808 mentioned without much more info on it. Can someone point me to more info about the 808?

Next, I've learned the difference between the cartridges and cartomizers, but I'm unclear about the longevity of either. How long will these things last before they have to be replaced?

A little background-

I have smoked non-filtered analogs for 20 yrs. I roll my own with American Spirit tobacco right now, and probably smoke about a dozen + a day. One of the reasons I roll my own is cost, but another one that matters to me is that the only waste is paper and tobacco. The packaging is all recycled except the lid on the can. I don't want to start vaping if it means I'm replacing (and throwing away) parts of the e-cig all the time. I'd like to know more about this before I jump in.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Hello and welcome. for more info on the 808 I would direct you to the vapor4life sub forum. Vapor4Life - E-Cigarette Forum They are really good and friendly people over there. the 501 uses an atomizer which uses a cartridge or you can drip directly onto it. their are also cartomizers for the 510 now. the 808 uses the cartomizers (which are disposable) or you can also use a 901 atomizer and cart on. this website is FULL of info, and can seem overwhelming at first. I would start with the stickies in the new member forum. I use the 510, but started with a v4l 808. the hardest part about using an 808 is deciding which flavor to pick. good luck.

Welcome to ECF Laughing Yeti! :toast:

I personally started with 510 gear and continue to use it. There are other excellent (I'm told) units out there. I believe 808 gear is good. Keep researching.

Carts vs cartos (cartomizers).
The only time refillable cartos work for me is with a 5v passthrough connected via a USB wall plug adapter.
I believe they can last a long time but after several refills they tend to get a little funky and burned inside. It's best to toss them away after a bit. They're fairly cheap.

I prefer using low resistance (LR attys) atomizers with a (ZFM) modified cartridge. There's lots to learn here....

Cartos at the usual ecig 3.7v is way too weak for me. I like lots of vapor and throat hit. LR attys work best for this. Later you might want to invest in some more expensive but highly functioning gear. Lots of information about ecig "mods" here.

It takes awhile to learn the lingo. Hopefully somebody else will chime in and help clarify.
Please continue to ask questions.
