Mom just turned 53. She started smoking when she was 17. She was diagnosed with emphysema & COPD (same thing kinda?) nearly 10 years ago. Doctors told her if she continued to smoke, she'd have ten years to live. Mom has suffered with asthma since a small child. Has been in and out of hospital with bronchitis, pneumonia & all the general smoker's illnesses for years.

A few months back I got her a 901 starter kit & she's just sorta played with it. On Christmas day, she had 4 cigarettes left. She smoked them & hasn't had a single cigarette since. She was struggling a bit on Christmas day after dinner. I swapped her 18mg juice for 24mg.

"Mom," I said, "this is why I got you 3 bottles of this!"
"Oh! It's stronger!" There was too much going on I suppose for her to think halfway straight.

So far so good. She says she has little urges now & then but pops her "stick" in her mouth & it goes away. "Nothing like it's ever been in the past!" she says.

She uses nicotine lozenges at work & her 901 automatic the rest of the time.

I've watched mom try to quit smoking literally dozens of times. I've never seen her do it with such ease. I wish these e-cigs were around when she lay in the hospital nearly dying fourteen years ago, coughing up colors of green that I never knew existed.

For about the first week, mom called me daily asking, Is it the atomizer? How do I know if the battery is dying? It's not hitting right!!!! Does the battery need to be totally dead before I charge it?

That's perfectly alright. I posted the same questions over & over here on the forums and at least mom has someone to physically show her things & doesn't have to search for the cheapest stores & waste money trying this & that.

Add one more who has FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY quit smoking cigarettes thanks to this wonderful little miracle gadget.

As for myself, I'm still half smoking, half vaping. Short on supplies because I didn't want mom to run to 7-11 for cigs because she ran outta juice so I gave her a bunch of my stuff. Although I'm not smoking the three packs a day that I was. Within the next week or two I'm gonna get dead serious about cutting out the cigs. Sorta hard to do living with a smoker. *sigh*

Is your mon a member of this forum. I think it would help her tremendously if she could discuss her views and feeling with other ecig users.

I was in the same boat as your mother. I was diagnosed about 5 years ago. I was in the hospital for 11 days on a ventilator with pneumonia and other complications from smoking. After this I continued to smoke. But when I found ecigs 9 months ago I have completely quit cigarettes. My health has already improved drastically. I hope your mother's health improves as much as mine. Good luck to her.

Ah, no. Mom can just barely work the DVD player; she doesn't have internet. I tried to show her several times how to work the wide, wide world of web. We ended up pulling each other's hair out.

what a generous daughter!!!
No, I'm really not. I gave my parents hell when I was a teenager. They fed me & clothed me for 17 years. What's that worth? I'll be the "generous daughter" when mom is refusing help in her old age. With quitting smoking, she may make it to old age now. She changed my diapers & if need be, I'll gladly change hers. (we joke on this all the time--"You're not putting me in a home!" she laughs)
